This why I don't like to go to concerts or anywhere else anymore

Last night we splurged and went to see stand up comic Jim Gaffigan. We paid $$$ for this show.

A woman sat down behind us moments before he came on stage and proceeded to non stop cackle laugh through the whole thing, even when it wasn't funny or he was in between jokes. It was a LOUD annoying laugh. (think the Tena commercial before they toned down the woman laughing)

She was either drunk or high or both.

When the show was over we turned around to see she could barely open her eyes and had a hard time walking out. She was in her mid 30's I would guess.

I'd rather stay home. Too bad.

That's why we don't go to the movies anymore. I'll just wait until the DVD comes out. Are people that lonely where they need attention constantly? If you ask them to please be quiet, they kick your seat.

And you can add concerts to my list because I like to enjoy the music from a seated position. The only events I will go to these days are the ones where I have a seat in a private or corporate box, by invitation.

Yes to being seated. I stopped going to concerts because I won't stand for hours and hours.

Seat kicking, talking, cell phone use, we stopped going to movies too because of that.

I'd rather spend my money going out to dinner now and then.

Isn't it a shame that others ruin an experience that you look forward to so much and pay good money for? That's why DH and I seldom go to the movies. People will not stop messing with their cell phones and talking out loud, and running in and out of the theater.

As for concerts, we will not go to any unless it is to a very nice venue where people are made to sit and behave. These other places where people are allowed to jump up and down and drink and curse and get into fights, etc. -- forget that. Who needs it?

When we do go to an event, we go to listen to the nice music or enjoy a peformance -- we don't go to get rowdy, obnoxious, loud and see how much we can annoy and disrespect other patrons.

We rarely,if ever, go anywhere. Maybe to the grocery. Never to the mall. We do not eat out. Last night we watched old Mission Impossibles on our DVD palyer. Had a lovely relaxing evening.

DH and l went to a Huey Lewis and the News concert recently at a small indoor venue. We had aisle seats near the back. A short while into the performance, two men drinking beer decided to stand in the aisle and talk loudly to each other. No one seated anywhere near them could enjoy the concert-- they were drowning it out. Many of us asked them politely to tone it down, but they ignored us. So we had to get up and change our seats. (Luckily there were some empty seats in the back.)

Unfortunately, the prevailing attitude among many people nowadays is "hooray for me, and to heck with you."

going to concerts have been forever ruined for us because you have to stand throughout, regardless of where your seats are and then everyone has their phones up in the air blocking as much as they can of what you can see if you are even remotely up close.

not worth spending the big bucks and this saddens me.

I guess I'm im the minority because I love to go to concerts. Been to several this year. Last weekend we went to see Garth Brooks and he had 12,000 people standing, singing and cheering. It was LOUD. We had a great time.

The last major concert I attended was Bruce Springsteen. We drove 50 miles to the see him. Our seats were on the front row of an upper lever and we had a clear view of the stage down to our right - until the concert got underway. That's when the two large people to our right stood up and started dancing and singing. They danced and sang to every single song. So we paid $200 to hear those two wannabe rock stars scream out songs while watching their generous backsides shake, shake, shake right in our faces.

I totally agree, as incidents like this are exactly why I don't want to go anywhere that requires me to be around people. Rarely ever do I go anywhere without witnessing some type of incident that makes me wish I had just stayed home. Honestly, the only place I go that is a pleasant experience from the time I get there until I leave, is the donor center where I do my platelet donations.

My DH and I (and sometimes my SIL) only go to events or shows now at venues where we know the audience will be seated and behave in a civilized manner.

I once had tickets to see Elton John. Initially, my DH didn't want to go so I bought a single ticket. WOW! I got the aisle seat, center section, in the second row!!! Back then, the ticket was $100. I couldn't believe my luck; I was on the side where his piano was and he was facing me. My DH then decided he wanted to go so I ended up getting him a seat in the riser section.

Guess who had the better seat??? He did! The six idiots in front of me STOOD and DANCED the entire time. The staff did NOTHING about it, even when asked. I asked the people (politely) to sit down or move to the back. Won't tell you the response I got. So I finally stood up myself and moved a little towards the aisle so I could see around the morons - and was immediately told I had to move back to my seat! I said "What about these people?" and the guard just shrugged and walked off.

Clearly, they were "friends" of someone. I ended up moving to where my DH was, when some people left. The next day at work I was talking to a colleague who had been there. She asked where I was seated and I told her. She said "OH! You were behind those idiots who stood up and danced the whole time? You poor thing!"

Yes, $200 poorer and would never do it again. No one behind those inconsiderate jerks could see a thing of Elton. And I didn't pay that kind of money to see their behinds (trying to be polite here) wiggling around in my face.

Trips to the cinema? Forget it. One time with only four of us in the audience - me, DH and a man with his young daughter. He took THREE loud phone calls during the film. "Yeah, I'm watching the movie. Yeah, what do you want me to get? Bread......milk....yeah. Anything else?" Fifteen minutes later "Yeah, I'm still in the cinema. About another hour and a half......" Fifteen minutes later "Yeah, I can do that....blah, blah, blah.......anything else?" I felt like shouting "YES. I'd like you to shut the h*ll up!" If a staff member had come in, I would've asked for him to be removed. Why bother going to the cinema (or any performance), if that's what you're going to do?

Too many people now act like they're the only ones there or they're in their home and not in a public place. No consideration for anyone but themselves.

DH and I seldom go to the movies anymore. We have the best seats in the house when we watch movies in our own living room.

We're not very tall. We used to choose certain movie theater seats in an attempt to be able to view the screen without taller folks sitting in front of us. Sometimes it worked, sometimes we weren't so lucky. Don't have to worry about that at home.
