Weight Watchers: Oprah Ownership!

Just heard this morning, Oprah is now on the Board w/ Weight Watchers AND owns 10% of the company....for a cool $43.2Million, she's bought in.

@Oprah: I believe in the @weightwatchers program so much I decided to invest, join the Board, and partner in #wwfamily evolution.

Definitely the right time to buy, being WW had lost almost 70% of its value...AND January 1 weight loss programs gearing up.

Curious to see how her involvement will help/change the program. Can't help up think she's personally going to lose weight for $43MM...and a board membership & 10% of the company thrown in as just a little bonus. =

Gracious, the televised/print media will be lousy with WW ads for these next several months!

How do you think she could change the outlook of the program?

has oprah ever followed the ww program? i don't follow her, so i wouldn't know. if she were to use the program herself successfully that would be a great testament. also, some of her friends......like gail for instance would be good for business.

Through all of Oprah's weightlosses, I have never heard her talk about following the WW program. Maybe I missed it.

I read this morning that her friend Gayle (sp?) had lost weight on WW and Oprah was impressed.

Remember her losing all that weight & rolling that wagon out with fat in it? I want to say that was liquid-type diet she did. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bless Her Heart...she's got those 'demons' to contend with...like many, many people have. She's been struggling with weight issues for as long as I remember.

Hopefully she'll lose the weight & be at peace with herself.

I remember the wagon and the jeans she was wearing.

She was doing that liquid diet at the time. I forgot what it was called. A woman I worked with did that diet. She lost a lot of weight, but gained it all back and then some. Her hair was falling out, and she wound up having gall bladder surgery.

WW is a good program but like anything else the weight won't stay off unless it is a life time change.

I lost quite a bit on WW but I regained it.

I am not into celebrity involvement in diets in front or behind the scenes.

I tends to turn me off .

I shudder to think how much we will be hearing about this down the road.

I wish her the best though!

I hope Oprah can give WW a boost. It's a great program but has all but disappeared here. I think part of the reason was the constant price increases.

The only time I recall Oprah talking abou losing weight on her show was when she made it clear she had a personal chef who prepared all her meals. She even had the chef on one of her shows, and talked about the diet she was on - I don't recall anything more about it, but she did lose weight on the plan she was on. I guess we all could if we had a personal chef there for us.

I don't think Oprah's input would encourage me to try WW again if I needed a plan. Actually I don't like any "celebrity" hawking a weight plan. We all know they have access to the best of whatever - things most of us will never have a chance to experience.

The problem with celebrities endorsing plans too is you never know if that is what they are really using to lose their weight.

That's nice that Oprah was impressed with Gail's weightloss but I would think she might want to try the program.

There are excellent food bloggers online that specialize in healthy skinny food, for lack of a better term. I follow several for their recipes.

Most of them translate their recipes into WW points.

There have always been questions about Jennifer Hudson's and Jessica Simpson's weight losses. Both of their commercials were pulled quickly.
