It's been about three weeks since Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli announced he'd lower the price of his drug Daraprim.

And so far, that hasn't happened. So we called Shkreli up to learn a little more about what the company's been up to since they came under fire for jacking up their drug price from $13.50 to $750. What he said didn't assure us that a change in price would come any time soon.

"I said that it would take a long amount of time to figure out how and when to lower the price," Shkreli said, in reference to his interview with ABC News when he first announced he'd cut the cost of Daraprim in response to public outcry over the hike.

Shkreli said his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, wants to reevaluate is how much of a demand there is for Daraprim before they lower to price. The drug is currently used to treat malaria and toxoplasmosis, an infection that's extrememly harmful for people with weakened immune systems such as people with AIDS and cancer.

"Until we figure out demand, we won’t lower the price." he said. "We have to find a safe price to lower it to."...

It's time for the FDA to approve a few of the BIG pharmaceutical companies to manufacture this drug. This drug has been on the market for years and CAN be made by other companies.

I realize this question is somewhat minor in light of his stance, but what does a "safe" price even mean? Surely he's not trying to say, "We spent XX dollars on this purchase and that means we immediately need to recoup our cost by raising the price on the drug"?

His whole stance is unethical.

His ugliness radiates clearly through. I can't even look at the guy's face without feeling queasy. Some people can hide their ugliness pretty well. Not this guy, and that he seems so pleased with himself is positively repugnant.

I had heard on a local radio program about two weeks ago, that he is also being investigated by the SEC, too. What he is doing is beyond despicable. People need this medication.

ACA insurance is just for people who don't get covered through employers.

No rates have gone up 138%. But if so, you really need to learn to shop around and become a better consumer. I bet there are plans that include your doctor at better rates.

Doctors come and go from private health insurance plans. They can drop contracts to be providers in any insurance company's plans at any time - they are independent businessmen. This was true BEFORE and after the ACA.

May I suggest you stop complaining and start researching more affordable options that include your MD.

This is what happens when we let unfettered unregulated capitalism run amok.

Capitalism is good - but there needs to be CONTROLS and regulations.

Without that - anyone can get greedy and rip off people with no recourse.

Regulation isn't necessarily a bad thing.
