There Is Something We Could Do

And we could start today.

There is a daily drone of hate talk in this country. Uncontrolled anger, we even hear it from our some of our leaders and from a few who want to lead.

It's all over the radio, some TV and on the Internet.

We could turn it off and demand that it stop. Boycott product supporters of certain outlets.

"Demand" that it stop? While I agree whole-heartedly with the good intention that I believe you have, I also believe that forceful anger only breeds more anger--just of another type. I believe the the best route to change is through 100% commitment to loving kindness--on a deeply personal level. I believe, for example, that there's only a small step from a little road rage on the interstate to mass shooting with an semi-automatic. I always marvel at some well intentioned groups who speak out so "hatefully" again hate. Seems so ineffective to achieve what we truly want to achieve.

The media feeds into the hate frenzy..... I refuse to watch major network news programming. Only watch my local for weather/traffic reports. The rest of my news comes from online sources or BBC. I try to stay away from biased sites and the negative fear mongering shrills. Works for me in most cases.

I said nothing about forceful anger. There's a technique known as being assertive. It gets things done and is not made of anger.

I witness enough 'hate' on these QVC threads .... unleashed and unwarranted. And we expect peace and harmony from the world-at-large....that's odd.

You're right.

But there's also daily hate talk available even without the internet. That could be a place to start, because there are people who listen to that all day, every day. It fuels them.

Here is a small contribution that is available to everyone: The next time you are driving and someone cuts you off or takes your parking space or drives too slow for your liking or whatever pet peeve driving button of yours is pushed, bless that person. Instead of giving them a finger, or swearing at them, or letting them get under your skin, simply bless them. And mean it. I tell myself that my guardian angel put them in my path to prevent me from having an accident down the road.

It is, again, that 100th Monkey concept. As soon as a critical number of people change from anger to kindness, the world will be a kinder place. Kindness REGARDLESS.

I do think the media is responsible for giving these people the attention they seek.

Look for many days of wall-to-wall coverage they give to these men.

I have a similar but different reaction

I remind myself there are a lot of very angry people out there, just waiting for any excuse to attack. And of course, some of them are behind the wheel.

For one's own sake and for the sake of anyone you are with, in cases like that, it's best to turn the other cheek, walk or drive away.

As straykatz said, the media definitely feeds into the hate frenzy and sadly, there are a lot of very impressionable people who are swayed by it. But hate begins on a personal level and I believe it arises out of FEAR; that is, not taking the time to understand others' beliefs so that anyone who is "different" becomes a source of fear. Hate also arises out of a person's need to be right -- THEIR beliefs are the only beliefs worth having and everyone else's beliefs are incorrect. That is ignorance.

There were reports the other night of this guy being on a chat room of other people like him.

The experts were talking about people like that who usually aren't too motivated to act out until they find others like them, then they reinforce each other.

They get reinforcement other ways too, even when it's just a reinforcement of a continual state of anger.

Sarina...great post. You are absolutley correct that hate comes from within oneself...we are not born with hate in our hearts...we learn to hate. It also spreads between those of like minds who validate hate often spreading it by feeding into the fears of others.

I agree that showing love is the way to dissolve hate.

One of the angry outlets that people use is on the roads... "Road Rage." Talk about scary...
