HI all! I went to Fort Lauderdale in June for the first time for a cruise. The weather was about 85 degrees and 90% humidity.

I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!!!! lol

So, we are looking to take a trip to NYC early June. I was reading that it can be quite miserable with the humidity there too.

For anyone that is familiar with both, is NYC as miserable as Fort Lauderdale in June?

Of course I know weather can always change Thanks!

In a word, YES. Bear in mind the city traps the heat and it's exceptionally crowded too during the summer months with tourists especially in certain areas. My nephew and I actually braved it in July last year but when he isn't with me, I only go home during Spring and Fall.

At least in Florida you get the occasional sun shower or thunder storm to break it up a bit.

I have been in Florida for 8 years now. I did not like the summers at first, but I am so used to it now that it does not bother me one bit. Besides, it is useless to complain about any weather because you can not change it. Live and vacation where you want to be and adjust accordingly.

I have visited many parts of Florida for 50 years. I grew up in NYC and have lived in upstate NY for most of my life. To me there is no comparison between Florida in summer and NYC. Yes, the northeastern U.S. has its humid days but that's not always the case in summer. Florida in summer is an endless barrage of oppressive temperatures and even more oppressive humidity. It feels like a torturous wall when you get outside. In summer Florida has its share of afternoon thunderstorms but unlike NY after a heavy rain, the thunderstorms in Florida bring no relief. It just gets more steamy and humid. My Florida grandchildren are graduating from college and high school in May and June 2016 respectively. My husband and I will be there to celebrate but I dread the weather.

I'll take NY anyday over Florida. Born and raised in NYC and now live in South Florida. The heat and humidity from May to October is oppressive. And now we have to deal with a hurricane. I don't know what possessed me to move from my home

Oh my goodness my vote is for the humidity in Florida- it's so thick some times you can almost cut it with a knife. We try out bestest to not go down when it's so bad... Nothing worse than taking your shower, getting all pretty, on to Disney and by the time you get there you are soaking wet.. My hair has developed waves on the side and it boings out... this is an over exaggeration but like Monica in Barbados...

I asked my husband one day- why on earth didn't you tell me the sides of my hair were sticking out, he laughed.. LOL

Hi, BailieandBella, I moved from NYC some years ago to a city near Ft Lauderdale. Manhattan is seldom bad in early June. Really, in parts of a hot August, Manhattan is worse than FL because of the crowds, the not-so-clean air, and the fact that air conditioning isn't as universal as it is in FL.

But in June, the weather in NYC is often not humid yet--sunny and pleasant.

This June was exceptionally hot here in SE Florida, among the hottest on record. What you experienced has not been typical--of course, with climate change it may well be the new normal.

My a/c bill was twice as high in June this year as last year. This year, June was a dry, VERY hot month, and there were fewer storms to cool things off even temporarily.

Again, NYC is a bit like southeast FL in the dog days of mid-August, but in NYC June is often really nice with clear, bright weather.

Totally agree with all comments about NYC in June. Heat and humidity bad in SC as well from May through October. Just go and have a great vacation - things are A/C so if you get hot duck into a cafe or store to cool down. New York is no where as bad in June.

Worst hair days ever in Florida and we have terrible humidity in Kansas.

My neighbor is considering moving to FL to retire. She said she could buy a mobile home for 10,000 in a retirement village near Clearwater/Tampa. That sounds wonderful to me. I don't know if this is true but it sounds tempting.

Moved from the Poconos to Central Florida 3 yrs ago. (I realize I didn't like right IN NYC, and we're not IN Ft Lauderdale now..) DH and I continually marvel at how much more comfortable it is here. At his previous house in South Jersey, we'd be sweating in the few minutes it took him to smoke his cigar outside. Here, not a problem at all.

I always joke that he's a 'sweater' - he sweats if he thinks hard!! No problem with that at all down here.

Every single place on earth has it's 'hell' - you just have to figure out what you're better able to tolerate. I'd much rather be warm than shivering and not being able to get warm.

I'll take the HEAT - I don't have to shovel it or scrape it!!!!

Sadly, many people only know Florida by trips to Disney. Orlando is in central Florida and it is much more uncomfortable there than near the ocean. I live on the Gulf coast and , though it is very hot, we are never without our nice ocean breeze. The winds blow all the time, making it much more comfortable.

No problem with that at all down here.

Every single place on earth has it's 'hell' - you just have to figure out what you're better able to tolerate. I'd much rather be warm than shivering and not being able to get warm.

I'll take the HEAT - I don't have to shovel it or scrape it!!!!

I agree. I live in Central Florida too! I love it. I'm keeping an eye on TS Ericka though.

I had no idea growing up that there were places in the US where you didn't have to wear a coat over your Halloween costume or Easter dress!!!!
