What was the first "important" piece of jewelry you were given?

My dad gave me a gold Bulova watch when I was 13 - and I cried. Nowdays three year old have watches but back then it was a big deal. He was a very calm, very quiet man and you knew you were loved even without a lot of outward displays of affection.

It is in our safe because it is valuable to me. My dad died when he was 49.

In the "good old days" the ultimate graduation gift was a good watch. My mother took me shopping in a "jeweler's row" section of Philadelphia to select mine. I also treasured that watch but it was taken in a burglary of our home years later.

Nowdays kids don't think they been "gifted" unless they get a new car.

The Brazilian amethyst earrings I inherited from my mother will always be the most important jewelry I'll own, at least to me.

The first piece of jewlery that I was given that remember wearing ( I'm not counting the cross necklace I was wearing when I was a baby) was a Christmas wreath pin that my mom picked out for me to go with my faux midnight blue coat when I was 6 or 7 to wear to Christmas mass.

I had my class ring picked out, was standing in line, saw a sample of a white gold ring with an aquamarine stone and said "I want that one."

I got my first black strap timex watch from my parents when i made my first communion. I still love watches.

My dad picked out a gold and garnet ring for me when i graduated. I still have the ring- one of the only things he ever picked out for me- he usually left the gift selecting to my mom.

I wanted a white gold ring when I got engaged. I ended up with an 18 karet white gold engagement ring and a platinum and diamond band that I found in an antique store. The rings are from WW II. I received one of the nicest compliments from my cousin as he held my hand and looked at my rings. Marks's compliment was "that ring looks like it was made for you." That is still in my mind whenever I pick out jewelry- does the style look authentic on me or does it look like I jumped on the trend bandwagon and the jewelry is wearing me?"

I received a birthstone ring when I was confirmed. I was 12. I thought it was the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. I still have it.

When I was a little girl in the early 50's I had mumps on both sides. My Daddy brought me a Cinderella watch in the glass (plastic) slipper. I don't know whatever became of it but that will forever stand out in my mind.. I can almost remembering him giving it to me....

I was the first girl born and my grandmother gave me a platinum diamind ring with sixteen matched diamonds on my sixteen birthday! (Of course It comes out only on holiday dinners now)!

@Suziepeach I had a Cinderella watch very similar to that! Mine had a white band. My mom bought it for me when we went to Disney World. I was about six year old, and I wore it throughout elementary school. The band eventually broke, and one of Cinderella's arms fell off. I'd forgotten about it. I still have it after all these years.

When I was in seventh grade, my grandma gave me a gold necklace with a diamond heart pendant for Christmas. She passed away several years ago. I still wear it, and when I put it on, I think about how much she loved me and I loved her.

My grandparents bought me my birthstone ring shaped like a heart set in 14k when I was about 8 or 9.Before that, I always had 14k hoops or post earrings (ears were pierced when I was 5.) One gift that stands out to me was for my Confirmation when I was 12. It was a 14k white gold cross necklace with a tiny diamond in the center. Also from my grandparents. I still have the ring and necklace.

My Snoopy necklace. I got it from Santa when I was seven years old. It was my only piece of jewelry, and I was devestated when I lost it. My dad found it several years later in our garden. I still have it today. It is similar to this:

For 8th grade graduation my sister gave me a sterling silver charm bracelet with 1 charm on it. I still have it and the many charms are a reflection of my high school days.

A relative found an expensive and very delicate watch at his public job on the day I was born. No one claimed that watch, so when it was given back to him, he gave it to my parents for me. I started wearing the watch in high school, and wore it until it totally died. I have it with other gold pieces I intend to sell someday when the price of gold is up again. The birthstone ring my parents gave me was also a very important piece; I have passed it on to my oldest daughter, whose birthday is in the same month. I just recently ran across a gold bracelet my Papaw gave me for my 10th birthday, and the 10 Commandments bracelet from Mamaw, which I cherish to this day.
