In the 1960's growing up...

One day my dad sent us out on a mission. Being in a rural setting, he did this: 'A spaceship landed in the cornfield by Telfer. I want you and your sister go and find it. Don't come home until you do.'

We searched all day. We did find evidence of it. The spaceship was gone. We gathered all of the evidence and headed home.

For some odd reason our dad didn't believe it.

The usual evidence, broken corn stalks and beer bottles. Those aliens drink a lot of beer. Found some candy bar wrappers. We lied and said it was from the spacemen, but they were really from us.

Maybe someday I'll tell you about the haunted house. Rode the horses right inside. We were bad children. When we didn't like a neighbor, we'd head to the creek with a burlap bag. We knew where all the bats were hanging. We'd collect some and then go hang them on the screen door of the wicked neighbor.

Hmmm, sounds like a good way to get kids outside to explore their environment, get some exercise, & use their imaginations. Your Dad sounds like a wise man.

We were outside kids. From early in the morning until it got dark. We only came in for meals. We had forts, tree houses and bikes to get us great distances. We were miles from home.
