I was out walking last Sunday (I feel like I can finally talk about it now) on a walking/bike path near my home in Northern CA (Folsom) and the wind was extremely strong blowing against me....well I had no cell phone, no camera and no one was around which was kind of eery becuase someone is always walking their dog on this path...very close to our homes. And I see what seemed to look like a golden retriever type dog in the distance (on the path)...then I see that there is no owner next to the animal...then I notice there is no collar. I'm still walking my walk...and I get closer and realize I'm near a giant CAT of some sort. Then it clicks...I see a tail, cat ears, huge legs and realize OMG I'm looking at a Mountain Lion! There have been reports of sightings in the area but they were like 5 miles away so no way could I be seeing one, alone, no phone, no one anywhere near me! I FROZE. Starting backing up, then walking fast in the other direction, nowhere to hide. Then I turned and looked at him and he saw me, and then motioned his body in my direction. I FLIPPED and took off up a hill knowing there were townhomes close by...jumped a fence (adrenaline fully kicked in)....and ran for help ringing doorbells. I never looked back...got help, called and reported it. Hubby did not believe me fully, so I started doubting what I could have seen. My leg is still tore up bad...but I get a call from the Dept of Fish and Game and she said that becuase the wind was so strong going in my direction, that the ML could not smell me coming...and that's why it didn't take off avoiding me sooner, and that I was the 5th person to report a sighting... freakin SCARY I tell you! She said the lion probably ran off as soon as it saw me going crazy taking off, which thank God cause they can be known to chase...I knew that but could not stand there and wait for it to think about killing me!
