Per MSN - Newark airport has had 4 planes that were landing report that between 2000 and 3000 ft they observed a drone flying extremely close to their planes. It is against the law for people to fly drones with in 5 miles of an airport or above 500 ft but , as we all know, people in this country don't seem to care to follow the laws. Not to even bring up the subject of possibility of terrorists. One of these drones went right under the nose of the plane.

I hate to fly and this is even one more reason not to.

It would be very difficult for a plane of this size to make evasive maneuvers but it could be done as long as the drone was observed by the pilots.

This was on our local news as I am maybe 30 miles away from Newark airport. There have been numerous drone sightings in the area in the last couple of weeks at the other NYC area airports, not just Newark. We've also seen reports of laser lights being shone/shined? into planes which is obviously prohibited.

Newark is the airport I use. The drones/lasers are a cause for concern, but won't stop me from flying.

For the life of me I will never understand why people are allowed to have these drones. they never should have been able to be purchased by people. What happen when one one of these get into a engine of a plane that is full of humans and it crashes, who takes the blame for this drone bringing down a passenger plane?? If they do find the person what will the out come be? A accident, not in my book of thoughts you being the person who had this drone and you flew it were planes are flying you should be charged with every life that is lost. there are lots of things that upset me but these people with these drones is at the top of my list. They should be taken off the market.

As long as drones aren't registered, then absolutely no (none) drone operators will give a hoot regarding what danger that they put people into. And that's a fact. As long as they can't be tracked down if and when there are lives lost, they aren't going to care about the dangers to other innocent people. And that goes for the neighborhood drone operators. Sorry to say.

p.s. And, by the way, just last week a kid (about 8 yrs. old) was going around asking if we saw 'something fall from the sky'. When I asked exactly what fell from the sky, he said 'A drone'. Now, that drone could have hit someone on the head, or damaged someone's car, windshield, or worse, a pet dog or cat. It's clear to me that most/many parents aren't going to be supervising drone-operating kids at all. "Mark my words"!

I cannot understand why our local, state, and federal governments have not done more to stop these idiots from sending up drones near airports. Obviously, the current laws are insufficient. I fear that only a tragedy will lead to more concerted action.

Who (which agency, politician/representative, whatever) should we/can we contact regarding the dangers of drones, flying around willy-nilly? I forsee very bad things happening on freeways, causing countless accidents. And, without any registration stickers on the drones, our insurance companies will probably raise all of our rates. If they will even cover accidents caused by drones at all. Wait and see. Drones are going to be a very costly problem in more ways than the obvious.

I would think the FAA and then the senators and reps we have. I think they should be registered with the FAA, all of them, and strict fines. They already have height limits that are being abused now. Something needs to be done.

In this case, adults have the mentality of three year old youngsters. I'm serious. Young toddlers don't have the capability to forsee (is that a word?) danger regarding their actions. Well, looks as though some adults, too.

If one comes crashing though our front window, and the drone is sitting there, how would we know who is responsible? Right now, we'd probably have to pay for our own window replacement. But, if the drone is registered, then the insurance company can recover from the drone owner. What's right is right, after all.

I think we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg on the problems drones are going to cause. In addition to the potential danger to air traffic, firefighters are saying they are interfering with their efforts to fight fires. Just the potential to intrude on personal privacy is scary enough but imagine them being used as weapons in a place like a large stadium. It's difficult, if not impossible, to track down the drone operator just as it is for those using lasers.

As I've said somewhere here before: 'Wait and see' how our insurance rates will rise because of all of the damage those drones will cause. (Well, because of all of the people operating or trying to operate those drones.) And, for those of us out there who rent apartments and houses, surely the landlords will raise their rents to cover kids flying drones all over the place, possibly damaging property, injuring people.

Besides all the issues you prior posters have brought up I'll add breach of privacy and loss of jobs.

I don't want drones delivering my purchases or anything else and putting people out of work.

I don't want the nasty noise polution that drones put out.

And I really don't want to see one flying over my private property. If that happens I'm buying a paintball gun and putting that drone out.

I have heard noises about the FAA or some agency putting forth that drones be registered and ID'd to a purchaser. Something is going to have to be done or ALL the scenrios discussed in this topic will come true. I don't even want to think about it.

Oh - and one of the other shopping channels was selling recreational drones. Grrrrrr.

There's a very simple solution: The government should outlaw them. But unfortunately they won't be proactive. Sadly, they will wait until there's an incident where there is serious injury or worse. Only then will they make those ridiculous things illegal.

The government -- our senators are looking to regulate them. With three major airports in the NY/NJ area, Senator Schumer is looking to regulate them.
