A week before Christmas my little shih tzu got out of the house when I was trying to get the mail. He ran past me into the street. I called for him over and over as I was beyond scared. I thought if I chase him he might run further away. He started to make his way back across the stree to me when a car came. It hit him and I was crying and calling for him. The car just kept going!

I went outside not knowing what my little guy was going to be like. I thought he may be dead or dying. He was behind a hedge where this accident happened and I could not see him. It all happened so fast. I know I did see him duck and tumble and he did take a hit. I went to where he was and he wasn't there. I then went up the next door driveway calling his name. There he was all shaken up. I called out to him and I was crying his name. He came to me and I grabbed him quickly so he wouldn't get in the road again. It isn't even a busy street yet a car happened to come. I took him inside thinking and I was so scared for him. Called my dh and then my brother who took us to the vet. Long story short, my dog is doing very well.

Vet is amazed. My dog had blood tests done and then x-rays. He did have trauma to his liver the vet said. It had been moved in the hit. My dog is on medication but otherwise doing good. I'm so happy he is with me still. I wouldn't have been able to take losing him.

Here is the situation. He used to love his walks. But now he is afraid to go out. He has to be forced pretty much to the backyard to "go". Then he comes right back in. (He has a shih tzu sister out with him). I feel awful about this and his fear. My son and dh are the ones that walk him and I can't because of a medical condition. He was fine before this accident. They try to get him to walk down the street but he only goes a little bit down the road and stops. He won't move and wants to run home. Have any of you girls got any ideas on how I can help him get over the fear? Please, any advice? Thank you
