The mayor stated he had to be assured that taxpayers would not have to pick up any costs: the olympic committee IMO has been doing a lot of dancing around on that subject since the onset, so d/n think anyone is surprised. Yeah!! at last public officials look out for the taxpayers -- he s/b commended!

Boston people were never fully on board with this anyway, so it's best that they're out of the running. They have enough taxes, fees, and money they have to pay for this and that just living in MA, so everyone was skeptical from the getgo.

It would have been fun, IMO, but probably not worth it in the end.

The people of Boston should thank their lucky stars they are out of consideration. It cost a fortune to put on the Olympic Games and believe me the only people who get anything out of it are the contractors who build the facilities and restaurants, hotels, etc who get a shot in the arm during the two weeks the games are on for. the only thing that the citizens get is a big PITA while the facilities are being built, more taxes and when it is over huge empty buildings that sit unused and acres of empty parking lots. it is such a scam. The cost to Greece for hosting the Olympics is still being paid off and one of the reasons their country is in financial trouble.

Yah! I believe they (olympic com) even had the audacity to state they would have "VIP" lanes - to accommodate the privileged few, not the taxpayers (duh!).....

C'mon to LI!! Take the Ferry from New London CT to Orient Point, NY-- Avoid the traffic on I-95 for the most part.

Then visit the wineries-- many to choose from.

Travel west and visit the Tanger Outlet in Riverhead.

Spend a day there.

Visit St James and have dinner at the Three Village Inn--in Stonybrook-- It's now owned by the people who had Mirabelle Restaurant.

Now get on the LIE otherwise known as the Long Island Expressway -- we refer to it as the Long Island Distressway and get to know what real 'traffic' is like! We do traffic big here!!

We have another nickname for the 495-- The world's longest parking lot.

Do not come on a Friday at 4PM-- you get stuck in early work release people and those going out to the Hamptons and further East.

Well, yes, but it IS Athens after all. Look what dire straits they are in now, and that has nothing to do with the Olympics land everything to do with a mindset.

Sounds like a plan, JustJazzmom - almost: perhaps you d/n realize you can't get off the MassPike on Fri/Sat!!! (Actually easterly the Pike is also a parking lot trying to head to the Cape, Plum Island, et al, at the same time there's a big game on (Pats, Sox...) - got the ans. - helicopters!!!

Would you believe that there is a airpath that helicopters must take to get out to the Hamptons? They cannot just fly over certain areas-- a specified path for them-- too much noise for citizens to hear all the time.

So your Mass Pike sounds like a Miss Pike.

All I can say is thank goodness for interstates-- can you imagine how long travel would take if taking local roads?
