What type of fridge do you own?

We are having major issues with our side by side kenmore fridge. The freezer is fine, but the fridge part isn't cold. Water condensed in the wall and expanded it and blocked the vents between the two. We have unplugged and are draining and drying out the stupid thing in hopes that mr henny can get the valves to open or whatever it is.

In the mean time. Do you have a side by side, or freezer on the bottom. What brands do you own, what are the pros and cons.

If we dont' get it up and running tomorrow I am buying new. UGH!!!!

We have a side by side Samsung, stainless steel. It's been fine. The ice maker is really loud when it drops the ice, but that's no biggie. I'm in the minority, but I don't care for the freezer on the bottom refrigerators. I don't want to have to bend over every time I want something out of it. There's just two of us. Side by side is just fine.

My refrigerator is a Maytag - the old type with the freezer on top of the refrigerator part. I still like that.

But we have another out, out in the garage that is a French Door type. It's not as bad as the side-by-side I suppose, as it has the freezer on the bottom, as a pull out type door. I don't really love that. It looks about the same size as my Maytag freezer but it holds considerably less.

I have a Samsung side by side and love it. I had an LG and had problems when it was only a year old.

This one was just delivered a few days ago. So far, we are very happy with it, it's spacious and runs quietly.

One determing factor for my choosing this one is that, with over 600 reviews, it has a 4.5 ☆ rating.

I'm with Gidget. I'm not sure about getting a fridge with the bottom freezer. It looks like I'd have to dig through everything to find what I want.

The present one is a side-by-side by GE that came with the house. It's fine, nothing exciting about it. My husband is campaigning for a new one with french doors on the top, a big deli drawer, and the freezer on the bottom.

I have a fairly basic Whirlpool, freezer on top, no ice or water in the door, that replaced my 27 yr orld fairly basic Whirlpool freezer on top.

The ice and water in the door was not worth the extra potential for breakdowns to me. Less bells and whistles equals less to go wrong IMO.

If I had to buy another, I'd buy another Whirlpool.

I have a side by side frig with a plastic "grill' where the water filter sits. I had taken the grill off to clean and when I had it off, I checked the coil.

Good thing I did, because it was covered in dust. I vacuumed it off and it looked nice and clean again.

Make sure you check the coil underneath to make sure it is clean. It can slowly kill the frig if left unchecked and cause it to malfunction.

Whirlpool - freezer on top. It suits us fine. Only time I wish it were bigger is when we have a family party.

Tansy, in all sincerity, I'd say, "Go for it!"

At that link I gave, there is an option to view a Demo, showing each feature separately. If you look at it, pay particular attention to the freezer -- it has 3 levels, eliminating that 'digging around' you want to (rightly) avoid. I can vouch that it's an honest demonstration. I am very happy with this purchase.

25 year old Hotpoint side-by-side. Almond, with "teak" curved handles. I love it and will be sorry to see it go.

My spare fridge is a large Whirlpool, freezer on top. We use it to hold our overflow from the kitchen, plus my girls keep their individual food in this refrigerator. The slightly smaller Whirlpool fridge with freezer on the bottom was moved to the garage last week to be used as our drink cooler, and storage for deer meat. After 4 years of this fridge forming ice under the freezer basket, my husband finally cleared the condensate drain, which was the underlying problem. (YouTube has videos of how to do this task for all types of refrigerators, as this is a major problem with self defrosting refrigerators with ice makers. Once the condensate drain is cleaned and open, these refrigerators no longer leak water or freeze water in odd places. A large GE with freezer on top should be delivered this week, and will fill the hole in my newly updated kitchen.

We have a Maytag...bought it approximately 7 years ago and have had no problems with it...Freezer drawer on bottom with two sections.

I love black appliances now and we just had to buy a new dishwasher a few months ago...I was so thrilled...lol...so I'm hoping that our refrigerator kicks the dust soon so that I can get a black French door refrigerator.

Whirlpool side by side. I like the freezer in it because it's easy to find what you want. Mine has five shelves - meat on one shelf, veggies on another shelf, baked goods on another, ice cream products on another, miscellaneous items on another. The bottom shelf has a pull out drawer which is convenient.
