Ian McKellen. -- Are You a Fan? -- Mr Holmes

I recently saw an advanced screening of Mr Holmes. Set in 1947, Sir Ian stars as a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes, struggling with memory loss. Flashbacks to his heyday are used. McKellen is magnificent.

I believe it opens July 15.

Part mystery, part character study, part the truth of what makes the man tick......I loved it. Watch for his visit to Hiroshima, only two years after we dropped the Bomb there. Watch for his spiritual awakening, and his recognition of the brotherhood of humankind.

I love the writing especially. Holmes is humanized and laid bare. He acknowledges HIMSELF, and his weaknesses, and the importance of a connection with others.

I have always loved Ian McKellen since I saw Gods and Monster years ago. He is such an classy actor. I am looking forward to this movie.

I also saw him in G&M and am I long time fan and of him in The Hobbit of course. I'm looking forward to seeing Mr Holmes since I saw a preview but living in a small town I doubt it will play here. I'll have to search for it , probably a couple hundred miles away, or wait for dvd.

Sounds like here. Thank goodness for DTV and Amazon streaming. I'll see it on one of those.

I love his acting and and look forward to seeing it.

We're so isolated here don't even have wifi to stream. Have to depend on 2/3 g unreliable phone data connection. Hopefully it will eventually show up on DTV but not on demand only, can't do that without wifi.

I also loved Gods and Monsters! McKellen made me cry in that one because his character was so real, and so believable.

Even though some will have to wait a while to see Mr Holmes, please write yourself a reminder to look for the film in a few months. It is so worth the Sherlockian-detective-work you might need to find it! A great film and performance.

I want to see this film
