I hope that you find a solution. Just wanted to say, that I hear this a lot that people hate bi-focals (progressive or regular). I never had trouble with my progressive bi focals. I wonder if its the place that makes them that doesn't get it right?

(I had cataract surgery last year but I still need glasses for reading and due to a bad astigmatism).

I love wearing glasses (unlike most). I just find them fashionable, and my glasses never annoyed me. Since the cataract surgery I can see better far away so I do tend to throw on some cool sunglasses when out and about. I love sunglasses :-)

2 years ago, my vision was getting worse and I needed glasses for most of the time. I got progressive lenses and I HATE them. I have tried and tried to get used to them, but I hate the distortion when I look off to the side.

So I am considering a traditional bi-focal.....I am 43 years old, is that "line" going to make me look 83?

Anyone else go from a progressive lens to a bi-focal?

This looks like I am a bit late in writing, but when I got my progressive they told me put them on keep them on all day. Do this for a week you will not want the lines as soon as you get us to them. Keep your eye forward except when you need to read. Move your head to read. It does take a bit but at your age you do not want lines. They will age you.

I wear bifocals and use to wear the glasses with lines - so to speak. My glasses are also progressive but progressive is in the tinting and I have to have extra tinting on top of that. I wear the glasses now - and have for some years - where there are no lines and it took me a while to get use to them but I did I never notice until I am at the computer as I have to tilt my head up a bit. No problem looking to the side. By the way I cannot get glass with the lines any more even if I had wanted them - it is a no no where I live these days - live in Sou Cal.

Not sure I understood your problem but I hope I did.

If you can't get used to the progressives, you can go back to bifocals. I don't think that they are associated with aging as much now - even if people notice, hardly anyone remembers what they are!

I was 45 when I started to need prescription glasses. I worked a factory job where safety glasses had to always be worn. The fact that on av"cool day" the temp was close to 100° help.

Less than 2 years later my arms had to get longer to read,, thus came the bi-focals. I'd say 3 years later i realized i no longer could see my speedometer very well when driving, and also had trouble reading prices on shelves at grocery stores. Summed up? I now needed a middle distance lens. They call them tri-focals.

My concerns were keeping these heavy safety glasses on my nosenin those 100+ degree work days, and also that on my job I needed to see middle distances to be ablento repair the machines in distances that were arms length and so small my head would not fit close enough to usenthe stronger bi-focal lens. Oh what fun those boiling hot days used to be. I had to adjust or find a new job, so i adjusted, looking old an all.

In 2009, when I was/am chronologically old, I had cataract surgeries, L-eye Multi-focal iol/R-eye Mono-focal iol. Results?. Whoopee! Don't need no glasses for nuttin now, but I do still look old, maybe because I am.

In guessing looking old is more of an issue with one gender when it comes to wearing any type of external eyewear, no?

Oh! Almost forgot. I never wore progressive lenses because their cost was more than I wanted to spend. I think you will look your age 43 and no older.
