In Bankruptcy.... Has to sell his fancy home. It is so sad how he let alcohol take over his future and ruin his life. Many bad decisions and several DUI's. I wish Dr. Phil could have helped him.....hmmmm....maybe a future show?

Well that's what happens when one is a drunk. Hopefully he can get his act together once and for all. I was a huge fan of his, he was my teen idol. I saw him on Steel Pier way back when. (Still have the pictures). Now he's just a disappointment.

It's very sad. I have always liked him. His father died in a fire after drinking, I believe. I hope he gets his act together before anything happens to him.

He may have to get to the very bottom before he really wants to get better.....he can do it. People still love him.

He has a addiction to drinking and needs help.

That doesn't make him a bad person.

In 1976 he fell asleep smoking while on the couch and that's how the fire started- so very sad

Being prone to addiction is thought to be hereditary. The person has no control over it. That's why it's called addiction. I think It's more like a sickness than a character flaw. So sad. I sure hope he has family who will see that he gets help!

Some do not seem to realize alcoholism is a disease. David Cassidy's father was bipolar and an alcoholic. My mother suffered from manic depression and was an alcoholic and I know how easy it would be for me to "overdrink".

Unfortunately many teen idols have followed a similar path.

I have nothing but empathy for him and his family.

Disease it may be.....but the way to cure this disease is to not drink. Hard to do....yes. But if that is the cure.....then you must do it- get help, go to recovery whatever it takes to stop drinking. He has to want to stop. It seems he is not quite to his bottom yet.

According to Broward County property records, Cassidy, 65, bought the home in 2001 for $1.1 million. Fisher Auction Company is overseeing the sale. Bidders must prequalify to participate. Auctioneers say Cassidy is "excited" to offload the property and "move on to the next chapter

Hopefully he'll come out ok.

His father was bipolar and an alcoholic, I suspect it ran in the family.

I don't think its as simple as "wanting" to stop any addiction. I'm sure many do want to. They just fall and fail. The first step in any addiction 12-step program is admitting the problem and their lives are unmanageable. The other steps are often hard because many people have a hard time with will and turning over their life to a higher power. I feel for him and hope he can find a way to get help and beat it.

This is really sad. I had no idea he was an alcoholic. I loved him when I was growing up. I saw him in a Broadway play once years ago, and he was great.

I liked him alot too. As FlowershopGirl said, he first needs to accept that he can’t manage his life, and needs help from others. He need rehab. Finding rehabs is easy around here with site’s like Canada Rehab reviews ( http://canadarehabreviews.com ) that reviews addiction treatment centers. Alcohol is such a huge problem because of it’s availability.

I just posted earlier this evening on another thread about mental illness... and many times it is an undiagnosed mental illness that makes people turn to alcohol and eventually full-blown alcoholism. For others, there is a genetic component over which they have no control... they are wired differently in the way their bodies and brains respond to alcohol.

I have seen this up close and personal, and it makes my blood boil when someone dismisses a person with this problem as a "drunk"!

This is a very sad and harsh comment on his affliction. I think it is obvious that this OP has never had any extreme or personal witness or affliction with alcoholism or genetic problems like it. It is next to impossible to just make oneself recover and those who do have had a miracle happen in their lives.

I pray he can receive the impetus needed to conquer this and live a healthy life.It is truly a "hell" on earth sentence.

Being disappointed in him for having this disease is like being disappointed in someone who gets an incurable illness.

I think the OP is extremely judgemental and harsh about this.But perhaps she has had such a lucky life she doesn't understand this kind of harship and what it is like for all of those who suffer.

Kindness, love and understanding are the key here.

I here you loud and clear! If you look right behind yourself, I'm the very next one in line applauding you and in total agreement with all you said ! Isn't is sad when people aren't tolerant out of ignorance ?

This is very sad, but I wouldn't let money grubbing Dr Phil try to help even my worst enemy .... he isn't even a real shrink!
