New Jersey

I opened FB earlier today and the first headline I saw in my newsfeed was "New Jersey is the most hated state in the U.S."

At first I didn't think I could read it so I quickly exited out. Then, a little braver, I went back ten minutes later and it was gone from my newsfeed.

I was born here and have lived here all of my life. I love my state for many, many reasons. It is not perfect, but no state is perfect.

Frankly, I know it is ridiculed . . . but "hated?"

Any "Jersey Girls" out there who saw this? Do you feel like weeping, as I did?

They are notoriously bad drivers...but I don't hate the state.

PA girl but spent most of my summers as a child/teen in Gilford Park/Ortley Beach and Ocean City. Still go to the beach whenever I can.

So much to "hate" about NJ. Beautiful beaches and lakes. Springsteen and BonJovi. Jersey tomatos and corn and blueberries. Close proximity to NYC and Philly. Four Seasons. Yep, lots of reasons to "hate" NJ.

I guess no one asked you or me when they did that survey.

Hated? I don't think so, it's FB and anyone can say anything, true or not. I'm sure NJ is a very fine state but I don't think people think about it enough to hate it. Maybe....New Yorkers. But if I had to list the states I hated or loved; NJ wouldn't make either list. It's not a state I think about.

If Jeff Edelstein is a good representative of your state's population, then I'd say rude too. Is the guy supposed to be funny along the lines of Don Rickles? If not, he alone could account for NJ getting the bad rap!

Don't hate NJ just all the Jersey girl stuff is kinda stale. Never been there but hear it's a beautiful woodsy state.

I should clarify. My comment, "you're kidding, right?" was said in reference to esmerelda's comment about Jersey drivers. She then added the "rude" statement as if to say people from Jersey are rude. I don't think Jersey drivers are bad and I don't think Jersey people are rude. And, by the way, I'm from PA.

Some of my very best friends are Jersey Boys and Jersey Girls! Smart, highly educated and sassy, all of them. My life is richer having them for friends---never a dull moment and lots of laughs.

Many people only have the NJ Turnpike as their form of reference---there is so, so much more to New Jersey, starting with a rich, rich American Revolutionary history and it just goes on an on from there---oh, and yeah, I'm a New Yorker, born and raised!

I'm Jersey girl and loved it. We had to move to up state NY because of job relocation. I think NJ is a great state and I miss it dearly.

Ford, can you write back and let them know that whomever wrote such a thing doesn't ever speak for all. I can't think of anyone who walks around and just lives their life daily going around hating New Jersey. It's baloney and stupid. Not true.

Yes it is. We have everything. The beautiful sea, mountains, forests, across the bridge access to two of the largest cities in the U.S., and all of its art and history, and so much more. There is very little we can't have within a very short drive. We have four seasons, we are bright, accepting, ethnically diverse . . . I could go on and on.

I don't like our governor either, but that's true in many states.

I'm still looking for that article.

My personal thanks to all of you who have said nice things about our state and you don't even live here.

My opinion as an outsider is that NJ is more popular now than in past years.

I keep hearing positive things about it, and the bottom line imho is...

I'm from Central NJ and saw the article, I laughed at it. However I do agree about the drivers, anyone who can navigate safely the Turnpike, Parkway, Routes 80, 280, 78, 287 and 22 is a pro.
