Most states have an agency that classifies, certifies, and regulates security guards. I think in most cases the body guard types of person is not permitted to carry a weapon.

I would think that most bodyguards that guard famous people have concealed carry permits and are armed. They are not just there for crowd control.

If I'm paying for a security guard I would want him to have a conceled weapon. Other wise it's like having a guy follow you with a baseball bat.

We may refer to them in the vernacular as "bodyguards". But many of those who work for the rich and powerful are usually categorized as some version of "Private Security" or "Personal Protection" forces.

They do carry (concealed) guns being classified as such.

And you be assured that Kim K. isn't paying for a guy just to look scary as he walks beside her. Some clients pay hundreds of thousands of dollars - even have million dollar contracts with such security force agencies. They aren't paying for someone whose big defense in an attack is to bite and kick. lol

Most "bodyguards" to that level of famous, rich and elite are usually hiiiiiighly trained in a variety of skills including gun use. They claim the best bodyguards often come from a history in the Israeli army, actually. After serving, many move around the world to be hired for their great skills at military-trained tactics and skills. There's big money in it for those who know what they're doing.

So you can bet Kim K. only hires from that level of most-elite "Personal Security" forces. When they go to the beaches at Cannes, they just put their bodyguards in swimsuits . But you can be assured that there's a concealed weapon on them somewhere.
