Does anyone else think it's creepy that they're tracking who's online and how many minutes they've been on? Also, how many minutes they've been idle. Weird

I don't think it's unusual. I go on several other boards that interest me (unrelated to QVC and online shopping) and they all have similar tracking features.

You didn't think this was set up just for us to chat...did you? Everything having to do with QVC is all about market research. They can study posting patterns here to see if forums are an effective strategy for buying.

I agree. Google is notorious for tracking users and everything they do online!

That's why I use a search engine called 'Startpage' instead of going directly to Google. They don't track you at all and the info is from Google. They act as a middle-man, so to speak and it's free!

When they first started this new setup, we were removed from being signed in if we didn't post almost every second......but that has changed. I can sign in and go to my e-mail or any other place I wish to, and come back and continue to be signed in.

As far as their keeping track of us, I don't believe they are doing that the way you think they are. They do have to be sure of who is posting.

What I don't understand and why they do it is to designate what kind of contributor we are. I really don't go along with that concept.......and their reasoning behind it.

Sorry to say it, but it's not accurate all the time anyway. I checked it for myself, and sometimes it says I've been signed on for hours (I forget to sign out), I haven't been back to the board for hours, but it says I have no minutes being idle.

A couple of times I checked to see if someone was signed on because I wanted to communicate with them in some way, and it didn't show them. But I went to the forums and there they were - "posted 2 minutes ago".

Now I've discoverd that there are two alphabetical groups. I searched for myself in the first one until the end of the alphabet, and then the alphabet started over! So I just don't pay attention to it any more.

I never log off either Smaug. I hadn't noticed that they were tracking us. I do remember seeing a setting, though, where you can change it so no one knows you're logged on. It's under My Settings, Preference, Privacy, Show Online Status.

If "tracking" means robo-counting by software, yes - there isn't a site on the internet that doesn't do that. If you think it means humans are following you every minute you're on QVC's sites and taking notes - not hardly. That's not even remotely realistic or plausible. Anyone who believes this is some special nefariousness created just by QVC doesn't get around the internet often.

You can select under your settings- preferences- privacy to show always offline whether you are or not

LOL, most boards have these capabilities and much more. You'd be shocked what you can see in the control panels. I'm pretty sure Q isn't stalking anyone, they do have other things to do.

Thank you Tenners! I hadn't seen that, but I did set up my privacy to not show that when we first switched to this new forum.
