Best way to reduce squabbling? Return the "ignore user" button!

I've noticed so much webbie poofing over the last few days and frankly, I think in the past the "ignore user" button helped to cut down on needless smackdowns.

Sure, we could just scroll by a response that revs our ire, but I'd rather just make the poster disappear.

I'm sure others would love to not have to see my posts either!!!

I actually like the new system. The ignore user feature was useless IMO.

I have no problem with diversity of opinions, at all, but there are several other reasons for which the 'Ignore' feature was valuable.

I miss it and hope they bring it back. The good thing is that nobody HAS to use it so it's there if you want to use it and easily ignorable if you don't.

While having the ignore button would be helpful it really leaves a lot to be desired. It is of limited use unless there is a way to configure it so that all posts from the ignored poster are invisible including when starting a thread and when a post is quoted. I noticed on one thread earlier today that when a post was removed as inappropriate another post that quoted it was also removed. That is a big step up.

Until Q can get the ignore button to work like that I'll rely on my internal ignore button.

I don't really buy that QVC "can't" have the Ignore button for some technical reason. I think they have decided that the way to handle delete-able squabbling/nasty or otherwise inappropriate posts is just to repeatedly delete them, and then there will be no need to Ignore, and I don't really believe they plan to make Ignore available later.

Same with political/religious/otherwise controversial threads/posts. They are going to be deleted. QVC is actually now enforcing standards they've had in place a long time, with much less to no leeway.

It will make for a duller board, which I don't love, but on the whole I think it's about time, especially with the **bleep**-for-tat slinging that goes on. Someone says something that is clearly meant to be insulting or derogatory and poof, it's gone. Nothing to get upset about if it's gone. I know there will be a lot of "borderline" posts removed, but while annoying, to me it wouldn't be "highly" annoying. I could learn to live with it.

moonchilde, I do hope they bring it back. There are some posters I don't ever want to read their posts at all. And I am sure there are people who feel that way about me, so I am not offended by that.

My internal ignore doesn't work that well - I have always been outspoken, straightforward and say what I mean.

I am not into games.

I have never really understood the ignore button. I just automatically do it when I need to I guess....that is what Marp would call her internal ignore (I like that!) When I was younger I might have needed it....I used to have a pretty darn good temper....now, I guess not much shocks me.

biancardi.... It's good to see you again. We haven't crossed paths in a while. I missed your posts. We didn't always agree but I always felt you were on the up and up with me.

The rules have become so restrictive, there's almost nothing can be said except silly oohing and awing over the hosts, vendors and products. I'm not into that. Its dishonest in many cases to say someone is wonderful when in actuality they're mediocre. It's obvious the boards have become too much of a chore. I think they should just discontinue them.

NEVER used the ignore feature before......i also have a "built in ignore" on posts or threads or posters that may bother me......and have already used it on the new boards.

The Ignore button helped me to scan the BBs more quickly when I was short on time.

It hasn't happened yet on these new BBs, but there are some posters who aren't debating, but simply making the same point, perhaps 30+ times on a thread.

It's not that I am uninterested in the opinions they express, but I resent all the repetition; it's a time-sponge when I have other things to do.

If I don't sign in I see their posts, and they don't bother me, but they are like hiccups punctuating the threads.

Like everyone else here, I have acquired a few nemesis-posters who attack my posts regularly. I've heard it all before and prefer not to hear it any longer. Wish them no harm, but I'll tune them out any way I can. Ignore is easiest.

These are posters (it's a small but active group) who are trying to start fights: why not frustrate their intentions? Actually, I think some of the nics are the same fight-starting poster, an oldie who by now has assumed a lot of different nics. People can change their aliases, but not their posting styles.

I never used the Ignore Feature maybe because I don't quite understand its role. I do prefer to read everything that everyone has to say, even if I disagree or it bothers me

To me, it's sort of like pretending part of the world doesn't exist, but this is supposed to be NeverNever Land I guess.

Yes...rather bland. Too bad it had to go so far...there should be the ability for a bit more character in our postings.

I think people say they use the ignore button more than they actually use it. Posters like to brag that they have someone on ignore, but they always seem to know what the ignored person has said.
