I'm still me, but.....

Okay, here's my sad story. I just got a new computer with a track pad, and I'm having al kinds of problems getting used to it. Secondly I have a new email since I went to icloud, so I went in to change my email in my account. That led to a questionnaire. So I filled it all out and changed my email addy. Next I came to the "new and improved" boards only to find that I had to sign in a second time. I went to sign in and it told me to choose a nickname. I put down RainCityGirl, which is my old nic. Up popped a red letter message telling me that someone else already had my name. OF COURSE SOMEONE DOES BECAUSE IT'S ME with a new email addy which I already changed, but my identity is still the same!!!!!!! So now I'll never be able to get my old nic back as apparently on sign in isn't linked to the other. GAAAAAAAH!

I like it though and it was immediately recognizable to me. A much more acceptable change than these awful cumbersome boards anyway!

Did you change your email address using the new function under Settings for your Profile? I have not tried it because I don't want to change my addy, but according to the Community Team's answers to yesterday's questions about this (Welcome and Get Started Forum, Answers to You Questions):

"How do I change my registered email address:
The ability to edit your email address is now available from your My Settings page. Which is available by placing your mouse pointer over your nickname and then selecting My Settings."

For what it's worth I thought it was you but it's good to know for sure. You may want to do what I did for a while and put your old name in the signature line for a while until folks get used to your new name.

Glad to see you're here. Whoever did these changes didn't know what they are doing. i've been trying to change the font size in my posts and that takes forever to get that done.

Do i sound frustrated? Maybe this is what they want; for everyone to get so fruatrated, they decide to leave.

I'm not really sure what you mean by a track pad but when I got my laptop i couldn't use the navigation pad below the keyboard and bought a wireless mouse at target (or anywhere) it will come with a little device to put in a USB port to connect it.

I don't have a laptop, but it may be similar to that on a laptop. It's a square think that syncs to the computer like a wireless mouse does. The difference is it can do much more than just click on things and depending on the fingers you are using, it performs various functions. One finger moves the cursor. Two fingers scroll. Other fingers allow you to increase, decrease, zoom, etc. You can swipe just like you can do on an tablet or Ipad. However, I haven't learned all the fingering and other ideosyncrasies yet. So not only am I dealing with this new forum, but also with the stupid track pad. Ugh!

It is a good, clear alternative and I think people will know who you are; but it shouldn't have been required that you change your nic.

RainyDayGirl, a few weeks ago the same thing happened to me. I tried to sign in as Kalli (capital K) and it told me someone else already had that user name. No kidding! It's me!!

So I had to sign in with a lowercase. Seems silly I guess but I would like my old user name back, the one that starts with a capital letter.

RCG, is your new computer a Mac? If so, the trackpad thing you are using is called "Magic Trackpad". To learn more about the different finger positions and things you can do - click on settings, then click on trackpad. Once in there, when you click on different things and short animation starts to play showing fingers on the trackpad. You can click on the same thing over and over again to see that function and what it does again and again.

I use the Magic Trackpad with my Mac. I thought I wouldn't like it, and kept my mouse connected at the same time. But I found myself getting comfortable with the trackpad pretty quickly, and the things that I thought I would die without the use of my mouse for I can now to easily (if not better) on that trackpad. I've now disconnected the mouse and haven't used it in months. Only time I use it is if I am doing heavy spreadsheet work, which for me, is still easier to navigate using a mouse.

So sorry about the email change problem. I think to change the email address you first needed to sign in under the old one, then go to settings to change it. Did you just click sign in using the new addess? I think it was thinking you were a brand new poster. But this is just a guess, I've not changed mine. I wonder if you can sign in under your old name, with old email address, then go to settings to change to new one?

I had to change my name a while back, too. I had to go back to 0 posts which was very irritating. I set up an automatic signature so that everyone would know it was me. You might want to do that for a while.

I recognized it. Looks all are registered in 2010 (if you registered before that year). They got rid of everything before 2010.
