I found one online, saved it to my computer, and uploaded it from a folder in my computer. My cat wasn't interested in donning a kimono, LOL.

When i click edit on my avatar the box comes up and stays white and cant do anything?...I have a chromebook so maybe it not compatible with it?

I couldn't get my pic to go straight up and down, it's sideways. I tried to edit many times but no luck.

I had that picture on my computer. When the box pops up here on the "my preferences" or "my settings" site (sorry - I can't remember which one of the two it is!) , it will give you an option to change your avatar from another source. Then after clicking the other source, I went to "my computer." I clicked on "pictures," then clicked that particular one. It showed up in the box here, and I clicked "save." That was all I had to do! HTH a little! That's been the only GOOD technical aspect of the new forum I've had luck with!

I just Googled Free Avatars, picked a site, found one, saved it to my computer and then uploaded it. It's under Edit My Preferances/Avatars

I went back to avatar and clicked on the original one. You know the black and white one? Clicked save then started over again to get a different one.There may be an easier way but this worked for me.

There is an easier way. Right above your avatar it says upload image, click on that.

Click on your name up above.

Choose settings

Choose Avatar

Choose upload new avatar

then you will choose the new avatar that you already saved to your computer.

a feature I do like is that I accidentally exited the community and when I came back it had autosaved what I had started to type.
