After retirement. When I underwent total knee replacement on both legs, my surgeon recommended wearing flats for maximum comfort and mobility.

I quit wearing them when I got plantar's fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis. I sometimes wear high wedges, but not very often. I go for comfort these days.

Late 20's, because they hurt, and because each wearing causes permanent and cumulative damage to the body.

Never worn heels unless it's a leather bike boot.Probably why I have zero foot issues.

As long as I keep them under 3" and they are well constructed, I'm okay.

My high heel wearing days ended about 3 years ago. I'm only 55, which is young, but I have some mystery pain syndrome and I have constant back and knee pain. I tried to tough it out and wear 2 inch kitten heels but I gave that up last year. I got rid of all my high heels last year, I accepted that thosse days are over. I wear flats, some wedges and I look for cute, interesting, whimsical footwear. I'm not overjoyed with the situation but I have come to terms with it.

I like heels, but only wear them once or twice per week. I actually feel more comfortable in heels than flats - Flats make me feel like I'm falling forward, for some reason. I wear wedge heels more than anything.

Four or five years ago...they just aren't comfortable, and as I get older I'm less willing to be uncomfortable!

I will wear 1.5 inch heels on occasion, like church or weddings or something dressier like that.

Stopped wearing heels before I was 30. They were destroying my already bad knees.

Now, at 56, I wear what is comfortable. Thank goodness there are lots of dressy flats to buy.

I love heels but my issue has always been I didn't want to artificially look taller than 5'7"". I realize that some with weight issues love wearing heels as it elongates their look but I've been slender all of my life and it was never a goal of mine to look like a lanky tall person on stilts!!! But I think they're absolutely fabulous for women who are 5'0 to 5'4.

I never wore more than a medium heel but the tendons in my right foot and ankle were mush. I had surgery on that foot in 1998, which was only slightly successful and have worn nothing but flats since. I can't even tiptoe. My feet look decent, very slim with no broken veins, corns or bunions so I can wear flat sandals.

As I have prosthetic leg, I've never worn much higher than 2".
