Will never go to afternoon movie again!...

Ugh I need anger management today (lol). Im so mad.

Went out to eat for Easter and to the cemetery (to my parents/grandparents graves).

(DH hadn't been feeling well w his back but said today hes fine to go).

So we ate a nice dinner out, then decided to go to the 3:15 movie where we could sit and relax and enjoy a movie. It wasn't too full, but then when the previews were on people starting pouring in.

Well 2 couples came in. 1 had a baby as in an infant. The baby is screaming non stop while the dad is saying whats wrong w her? DUH!. Next, the other couple has a toddler (about 2 or 3) hes talking in aisle and playing w a truck like theyre at the darn playground! So theyre shhh ing him 100 X & then hes screaming.

I finally said to DH (after 30 minutes) lets go Ive had it. I was going to say something to both sets of parents but now days well you never know who has a knife or gun, so I didn't need a confrontation so we walked OUT.

To add- Insurgent is rated PG 13, its not a Disney movie. What normal parents would think a toddler is going to watch this movie? And a baby is going to keep quiet in a loud dark theatre?

Maybe Im different but when my kids were that young I didn't take them to any movies until they got a bit older and then it was Disney movies. IF I couldn't go to the movie due to no sitter I stayed HOME. And that was LIFE! Seems to me now days people are self centered.

I am NOT blaming the baby or the toddler its the parents. (And I always stick up for kids at movies b/c we take our OLDER grandkids and we notice all the kids in movies are usually well behaved). But these kids today were TOO YOUNG!

So here we sit at home bored again after both of us having been cooped up with bad backs. I finally got a shot in my spine, DH is feeling better but we left the movie due to morons and just decided to go home.

So from now on we will only go to morning movies like we usually do when its empty. I thought it would be empty ALL DAY today with people visiting family but I judged wrong.

Oh and lastly my daughter goes on IMAX and they have a sign up saying NO children 3 or under at any movies. I think that's what the theatre we go to should do too. (Carmike theatre). So I think I am going to write them an email about today.

Don't know what's gotten into people at movies..........we don't go much anymore since we can get them pretty quick to see at home........Shorty hope you got a refund......

Our AMC theater has people coming in to check on the audience during the movie. A whole list of rules on the screen before the movie starts.

If you don't follow the rules they will ask you to leave.

I agree with you so much, Shorty. And (getting up on my soapbox now), what is the deal with today's parents dragging tired children out in the afternoon to stores like Target? The children are just miserable, and I feel so sorry for them. Do kids not nap anymore?

I agree that you should ask for a refund.

I don't think it's right for parents of young ones to expect their children to be quiet and well behaved at a movie theater, especially when the movie is for adults. If they DO take young ones, they should leave when the child starts behaving in a way that negatively affects the rest of the paying customers.

You should call and complain. Who knows maybe you'll get a couple free passes.

I don't know why anyone would bring an infant to the movies or let a little one play in the aisle...not safe for him or anyone trying to walk in the aisle. Not to mention the floor is probably very dirty.

ITA children do not need to be there. Went one night with the girls and someone brought 2 kids to a rated R movie. And, it was a night showing. Call for a refund and speak with the manager as well as writing the movie company. I also don't get bringing kids to a "nicer" restaurant at night. Parents today think their children should be allowed everywhere. When my DH and I go out for dinner I ask for a seat away from kids.

That's unfortunate that some inconsiderate people ruined your plans for a nice afternoon, but these days a general lack of social etiquette seems to be the norm. The parents probably couldn't find a babysitter on Easter, so brought the kids...they should have stayed home.

I have very little patience for that type of situation, and probably would have said something to the parents, but I understand your reasons for not doing so. However, I definitely would have complained to management, asked them to first say something to the couples to give them an opportunity to correct the problem, but then definitely asked for a refund. Movies these days, even without refreshments, are far too expensive to tolerate an unpleasant atmosphere. You had a right to see the movie in an environment where you can enjoy it, and the movie theater has a certain obligation to provide that. Even though they cannot control the parents actions, they do have the authority to ask those couples to leave if they are making the viewing experience unpleasant for other customers. I'm sure you weren't the only ones bothered by those noisy children. To be sure it is not the children's fault, they are just being kids. The fault lies completely with the parents that put their own needs first with no regard for the other patrons. It is a sad social commentary when you have to hope for a good experience when going out to a movie, rather than it being the norm.

Several years ago, comedian and political commentator, Bill Mahar came up to my neck of the woods to do a one night show.

I went to see his show, and it was sold out.

One set of parents brought their infant to the show.

As to be expected, the baby was being fussy.

I get that the parents wanted to see the show, and maybe they couldn't find someone to babysit, but they made the poor decision to bring the kid with them.

At first Bill tried to play off of the kid's loud noises.

Then he tried to ignore it.

Finally, he told the parents that this was not the venue to bring the kid, and to please leave, and that their money for the tickets will be refunded.

The audience applauded as they left.

Going to a movie now a days you never know what to expect. You have the crying babies, the noisy toddlers, people texting and the light shining from the phone, people talking through the entire movie, is there no respect for others any more?

From now on I will ask for a children free zone and a no cell phone zone, in restaurants and theaters.

Haven't been to a theatre in ages. For all the reasons you mention and well, safety comes to mind, too. Not to mention we don't have IMAX, etc here.

We have "movie nite" when the new releases come out on dvd. We schedule it for a weekend with food, chips, snacks. Can turn the sound up/down as loud as we like (no neighbors). We can pause, rewind and watch a 2nd time if we want.

Sorry but the entire movie experience has changed and not for the better.

I wrote an email to Carmike after I typed this thread and gave our name, address, phone number, email, and we have a Carmike card they scan (that you win free popcorn, soda etc after so many movies). So I put our card number in the email. It stated you will hear from someone in 24 hours. If I don't I will call the manager then.

I would have asked for a manager when we were leaving to tell him, but I happen to know the man in charge left because we know him from going to lots of movies and we were talking to him before we went in. He said he was going out to eat w his sister shortly. And the ticket booth was closed today and teens were manning the concession and that's where we had to get our tickets for today. (Most likely due to it being the holiday this was the situation today).

Anyway as I said we usually go to morning movies and there is hardly no one there on Sundays. So that's what we will do instead from here on. I really thought it would be empty or more people would be seeing Fast and Furious 7 which just came out. Well I was wrong. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the replies and I totally agree that "some" people today just don't have manners anymore. Civility is slowly going down the drain.

I grew up in a large family and we were not allowed to go to the movies til we were through kindergarten (used to sitting still for a while). If we acted up we were taken somewhere else while everyone else watched the movie.

I can't imagine bringing a toddler to the movies and allowing them to play with a toy in the aisles, except it happened to me 10 days ago on a plane. There was a child, very small, seat behind me who was in the aisle with his toys the whole flight, except a nap he took just before landing. He played quietly but I kept thinking of what would happen if we hit an air pocket.

I for sure would've told the manager, and if they didn't handle it immediately, I would've asked for a refund. What is wrong with people. They don't have any manners or social awareness anymore. It's ridiculous!

Sadly I've seen the same but in R rated movies. Once a poor toddler with his slightly older brother were making such a fuss that several patrons had to get the staff. This was during a very inappropriate-for-minors scene taking place onscreen. The only people who got a refund were those who went to the office and complained. I asked the manager if it was their policy to let children into viewings of R rated movies and he replied that as long as a parent or guardian was present it was okay.

We go to the movies often and recently saw something I have never seen in a movie. Someone brought a DOG! Man came in with a big lab type dog and went to the upper most seating. the dog got comfortable on the floor and was not heard from until the end of the movie. Better than disruptive patrons for sure.
