Chaz Dean (Wen) Being Sued For Hair Loss

My local news had this on this morning. 6 women have started a law suit for hair loss due to Wen and named Hollywood hairdresser Chaz Dean. They only mentioned the info commercial.

I wonder if Q will continue to carry his product while this is going on?

There was a class action lawsuit filed in 2014 by a Florida woman against Wen/Guthy-Renker who claimed false advertising among other things after she suffered hair loss while using Wen. She said there were ""many"" blogs and stories from women who had lost their hair after using Wen. The woman in Dallas who started the lawsuit mentioned in the OP is a lawyer. She claims the women in Dallas are so distressed they are now housebound. IMO these women may have had an allergic reaction and that does not mean the product is harmful. It means they are among the small percentage who cannot use it.

Homebound? I think that's probably an over dramatization. I think the lawyers for the defense should hire some detectives to follow some of those who claim they have been homebound.

My guess is that there is going to be some allergic reaction to an ingredient.

I was waiting for someone to post about this (didn't want to poke the Wen bear!)!

Since the attorney is from Dallas, this has been all over the DFW media the last couple days. This definitely is garnering attention unlike most generic lawsuits....should be interesting how it plays out.

The women in that video don't look like they lost a lot hair. Or I don't know how they could tell if they really lost any hair. It's puffy hair then flat hair.

I think EVERY product is going to cause a bad reaction in SOMEONE. There are many thousands (millions?) who use WEN and love it...I'm one of them.

Many years ago, I had a really bad reaction to Pantene products. I just quit using them. Then some Suave holiday body wash caused an itchy rash on my legs. I stopped using it. Problem solved!

I'm pretty sure others must have had reactions to these and many other products. It just never occured to me to file a lawsuit!

If I were on a jury, I'd want to see evidence of permanent hair loss. Pretty much every complaint I've ever seen here seemed to indicate changing to a different brand solved the problem.

To me, that means an allergy to a product, not a defective product. Nor do I see what damages they can claim if the loss wasn't permanent. I guess they wouldn't want me on that jury.

I think in the case of THIS type of reaction...that is hair loss...it is much more traumatic and devastating to a woman (especially) than let's say a skin rash from a cosmetic so I don't know if you can compare this reaction to all other reactions. In fact I think the only type of reaction that would be worse than hair loss would be anaphylactic shock.

Why wouldn't these women have a case if there was a specific time frame and they had documented evaluations and tests by their internist, derms and hair specialists all saying they were in excellent health and there could be no other plausible reason for the hair loss?

The Maybelline mascara in the pink and green tube caused my eyes to burn and swell almost shut. It was an allergic reaction. I would never think of suing the company just because my body reacted to a product that is used without problems by millions.

I've used WEN for many years with no problem too. I'm sorry these women had a problem, but frankly, it's just THEIR problem, not the product.

I agree. I know people who use the product and their hair is now thicker.

I tried it and I simply didn't like it. It made my skin sting a little and the smell was awful. That's just me.

Cases like this are very, very difficult to win in a court of law. Their burden of proof is quite high. The class action tobacco case in Florida was decertified as a class because each smoker had a unique profile: they started at different times, smoked for different lengths of time and had different health histories would could have led to disease.

A good WEN attorney would examine everything these women used, including any other hair products at any time during their WEN use.

I had a hair loss reaction to certain hair products but it was an allergic reaction that most don't have. I just switched to something that works. It would have to be positively determined exactly ingredient/s caused their hair loss and even then since there are way more that love the product, probably will be hard to win. Chaz also might just settle which isn't admitting anything just to stop the hysteria and not have to waste time on this nonsense suit. Also many that insisted hair loss was from WEN posted that it grew back after quitting WEN. The proof would have to be on the women and I bet not many have seen specialists to prove it was definitely the WEN.

I saw this on our local news last night but didn't want to bring it here, especially on the Beauty Board. I agree with the people who said allergic reaction on the part of the women instead of the product being harmful. I don't use it myself. They did say something about testing the product to see what was in it.

Each of those women should also be tested to see what they might have in common in the way of any allergies, as well as the product tests. A lot of times people have reactions to things with a lot of other variables involved, especially when using drugs.

I would really like to know the age of these women claiming hair loss plus a full blood analysis including hormone levels. I've been using Wen for a number of years now and it has given me fabulous hair with manageability, bounce and volume.
