      <title>Daily Positive Thread for Sunday</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hello everyone! Back from Mpls. and the 90th Birthday Party for my sister, Erma! The weather couldn't have been nicer!! And the party was very nice indeed - lots of pictures displayed, their Wedding Album etc. was so nice to go thru them again, I was just 9 at their Wedding and I was junior bridesmaid!  So we were all together except Linus couldn't but he called her from Texas and both he and Darla talked to Erma!  He's having a good time there. All morning they made headways in the garage - when I got home I called him.  Now Lori is planning another sister get-together for my birthday in April in MPLS. When they are in their 90's it's good to spend as much time as possible with them. In two years Ethel will be 90 and then another year, Sister LaDonna!  I will be 75 in April but I feel much younger.  I thank and praise God for the time I have with my sisters! Pinky - I plan on putting St. Patrick's Life on here soon. It's coming up fast!! We can choose the simple things&lt;BR /&gt; always.  Life can become complicated if we let it be so.  We can be swamped&lt;BR /&gt; by difficulties if we let them take up too much of our time.  Every&lt;BR /&gt; difficulty can be either solved or ignored and something better substituted&lt;BR /&gt; for it.  We can love the humble things of life. Anyway here's what I found so far on St. Patrick:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN class="LabelColumnText"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;Legends about Patrick abound; but truth is best served by our seeing two solid qualities in him: He was humble and he was courageous. The determination to accept suffering and success with equal indifference guided the life of God’s instrument for winning most of Ireland for Christ.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;Details of his life are uncertain. Current research places his dates of birth and death a little later than earlier accounts. Patrick may have been born in Dunbarton, Scotland, Cumberland, England, or in northern Wales. He called himself both a Roman and a Briton. At 16, he and a large number of his father’s slaves and vassals were captured by Irish raiders and sold as slaves in Ireland. Forced to work as a shepherd, he suffered greatly from hunger and cold.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;After six years, Patrick escaped, probably to France, and later returned to Britain at the age of 22. His captivity had meant spiritual conversion. He may have studied at Lerins, off the French coast; he spent years at Auxerre, France, and was consecrated bishop at the age of 43. His great desire was to proclaim the Good News to the Irish.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;In a dream vision it seemed “all the children of Ireland from their mothers’ wombs were stretching out their hands” to him. He understood the vision to be a call to do mission work in pagan Ireland. Despite opposition from those who felt his education had been defective, he was sent to carry out the task. He went to the west and north, where the faith had never been preached, obtained the protection of local kings and made numerous converts.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;Because of the island’s pagan background, Patrick was emphatic in encouraging widows to remain chaste and young women to consecrate their virginity to Christ. He ordained many priests, divided the country into dioceses, held Church councils, founded several monasteries and continually urged his people to greater holiness in Christ.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;He suffered much opposition from pagan druids and was criticized in both England and Ireland for the way he conducted his mission.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;In a relatively short time, the island had experienced deeply the Christian spirit, and was prepared to send out missionaries whose efforts were greatly responsible for Christianizing Europe.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-family: Times New Roman;"&gt;&lt;SPAN style="font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;"&gt;Patrick was a man of action, with little inclination toward learning.       <description>&lt;P&gt;i Ladies,&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;  I attended my usual early mass, then stopped for a few groceries on my way home. We're having a wintery mix off and on this morning, so I'm glad to be in for the day.&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;Gloria, Cute email! I'm happy your party was such a success. This morning after mass, I gave Father the pix(sp?) that my dad used for many years as a Eucharistic minister. I've had it for almost seven years, and decided it would honor him more for it to be used in church. Father was very nice, but I was nervous and  really rattled on. I hope it wasn't too bad. I'm so glad to have done this, but it made me so very sad. I guess it was a reminder not only that he's gone, but also that I can't serve like that anymore.       <description>&lt;P&gt;Julie - Yes, Ethel is the other sister who shares March 10 with Erma, 2 years apart.  Our brother, Larry, was between Deil and Erma.  Plane crash at 41.  He would be 89 now. Still miss him, I loved him a lot! He gave me away at the Wedding.&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;Yes, Bobbiesue Linus is having great daughter/father/and son-in-law time now. They all went to Mass together at 10:00 - then out to eat then on to Home Depot where he'll pick up samples etc. of what color to use for the refinishing of the table and dresser.&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;Harlene - yes, and the weather for driving back was so good, nice and warm!  And with Daylight saving time we didn't have to drive home in the dark!  Hope all is well with you and yours.&lt;/P&gt; &lt;P&gt;Pinky - you have wintery mix today?  Here the high should be 67 degrees and sunshine.  It's a bit windy though, but it's still warm. All week it will be nice, but this is the warmest day of the week.  I sure can understand how you felt giving Father that pix, it meant a whole lot to you! What a wonderful thing for your dear Father to do!  You did, too, at a time? I'm sure you talked fine with Father and he was happy to hear you, and to get the pix.  Hope you are feeling better now.
