Anyone live in Henderson or Paradise, Nevada? Like it? Tell me about it

I am searching for a place to move in the next few years, out of the northeast for me, had enough!

Looking at Arizona, Florida & Nevada

How is weather here? Good amount of stores? How is traffic?

I do not live there but just visited a relative who has a second home in Henderson. It's so nice there. He lives on a golf course with a panoramic view of the strip. The town looks so new and the shopping areas are easy to get into and out of. I hope you love it if your move there..... Lucky girl.

My daughters inlaws live in Vegas, they are so miserable in the summer months, they now rent a condo in Oregon for 3 months just to get out of Vegas in the extreme heat.

I have friends in Henderson who do the same thing.

They leave every year from about May to Labor Day. They either travel to cooler states in their big mobile home, or they volunteer to work in state parks in cooler states.

esmeraldagooch.....are you sure your friend doesn't live in Summerlin? The way the city of Las Vegas and surrounding areas was built, the west side of town (where Summerlin is) sits at a much higher elevation. The water from melting snow from MT Charlteston flows downhill all the way to Lake Mead as does any rain water anywhere hence the reason some ares get flooded, although over the years better flood channels have helped. While there are many golf courses in both Henderson and Summerlin...it is only in Summerlin where one has panoramic views of the strip.

Hi ANNMARIE ! I don't live in Henderson but I don't live far from there and have been there many times. It's a nice area.I would say the positives are the affordable housing, the fabulous winter spring and fall weather, the amenities , great shopping,and there's so much to do . The negatives would be of course the hot summers, so a pool is almost a must have IMO., and the traffic.

He lives in a gated community just off of South Eastern Ave in Henderson The golf course he looks at is Rio Secco Golf Club. You can see the Mandalay bay clear past the huge farris wheel to the Stratosphere. I took a bunch of photos from the patio during the day and at night when it came to life...

We moved to Henderson last November from So Cal and love it so far...reasonable prices for homes (we are leasing in anthem country club) and easy to get around...we have found good doctors too, which is very important...also Vegas is easy to fly in and out of, which is a plus for visitors...there are areas in Anthem where you do get a great view of the entire valley including the strip...we know summer will be bad, but figure we will just deal with it...not unlike dealing with harsh winters when we lived on the East Coast...good luck with your search....

Traffic can be heavy, of course, just like any city - but not nearly as bad a Southern CA in my opinion.

My brother lives in Summerlin and he and my SIL love it there. Yes, its hot in the summer but they lived in Palm Springs so they like the heat. They did say it cools off at nights and in the winters more in Nevada than in California desert as well. They have friends who live in Henderson and they like it. He said they get together once a month at different places for breakfast and the prices are fabulous at some of the casino restaurants in Henderson.

Anthem is the newer section of Henderson and at the south end of the strip on the east side. Pictures of the strip from there would be appreciated if you have them. Thanks.

I found this picture from zillow.com. Apparently some homes in Anthem were built at a higher elevation and have this view of the strip.

That particular house btw is $630,000 has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms has 3,369 sq ft.
