Just wondered, when did we stop carrying purses and start wearing handbags?

I still ""carry"" my purse. I don't say handbag or bag and I never ""wear"" it.

I worked in the handbag department at Nordstrom in college. We weren't allowed to say purse. LOL

birkin baby, I still catch myself calling it a pocketbook but generally call it my purse or bag.

I never in my life carried a purse, that word isn't used in my area. When I was growing up, women carried "pocketbooks". Some older Boston area ladies still call them pocketbooks but that word has pretty much died out. I bet if I said "pocketbook" to teenager, she wouldn't even know what I was talking about. Now we carry handbags. "Wearing" handbags does seem to be coming into fashion these days; I hear and see it a lot but I never say it. It's silly. I wear belts, I wear shoes but I carry my handbags.

Due to my bad shoulders mr henny ends up carrying my purse here in CA. ----He also carries his own ""man purse"".

I've never understood ""wearing"" a handbag ..... I don't know how it can be worn .... you CARRY it!

I've never heard the 'wearing' thing. That seems odd to me.
