We need your prayers....

for our cat, Daisy. She is almost 18 years old and appears to be nearing the end.

She was fine over the weekend, with no other issues than those of normal "old age." She has also been treated for hyperthyroidism for the past 4 1/2 years, and has been very stable.

Then, on Monday, she took a sudden turn for the worst. She has stopped eating, unless we syringe feed. She is drinking more than usual, but still not a lot. And, she seems to just be in a daze and would continuously sleep, all curled up in my rocker, if we didn't try to get some nutrition into her. I'm kind of suspecting her kidneys may be giving out, or that maybe she had a small stroke. Or, since she is about 88 years in people years, maybe it's just her time....

She doesn't seem to know who she is or who we are this evening. I had a lengthy discussion with our vet, and we are taking her in tomorrow morning.

My heart is breaking, yet again. We lost our dog, Dudley, back in October, and that pain hasn't yet healed.

Please keep her in your prayers, so that she crosses the Bridge in peace.

Daisy and your entire family are in our prayers. She must be very special, and she's had a wonderfully long life because of your love and care. This part of their journey is never easy and it's always too soon to even contemplate. Please keep us posted on your beloved kitty.

Thank you so much, Sheltie Mom. For some reason, I thought she would "always" be with us. Or at least, be with us for just a little longer, since the hole in our lives that our Dudley left behind is still so new.

I'm trying to take comfort in the fact that she had two scary health episodes over the years, and I feel like we gave her an extra 7 years. She's been one tough little girl, and I think she is just all tired out.

I'm sorry you have to go through this so soon. It sounds like you are making the right decision from what you described. We have to do things we hate for the love of our special pets so they are free to roam again.

Thank you, luvmyteddy. I've watched Daisy drift just a little further away this evening. Making this final decision for our pets is one of the hardest things we have to do. However, knowing that this is only going to get worse for her, makes the decision just a little easier.

She's been such a special kitty and part of our family for so long. There is no way I could watch her suffer and wait for nature to take it's final course.

I am saddened to hear about your beloved Daisy. It is so hard to make the decision to let them go, but of course in the end it truly is our final gift. You have already been there, so you know. Bless you and yours in the days ahead.

My heart goes out to you and your family at this very difficult time. I can relate to how painful the decision to send your beloved Daisy to The Bridge was to make as I've been in your place more than once.

Please find solace in the fact that Daisy has always know how very much she was loved,that she'll be surrounded by that same love when you send her to The Bridge today with dignity and in peace and when she gets there,Dudley will be waiting for her to help her cross over.

Having made this decision and it's timing many times, I understand just how many different feelings you are going through. I'm also very grateful that you are willing to make that decision, and not 'let nature take it's course", as it can be cruel and painful.

Prayers for peace and strength as you navigate your grief. Know how special you are for loving animals and giving them such a good life as you do. They are more grateful to you than you could ever imagine.

Sitting here at work reading this with tears in my eyes and picturing all of my furbabies and knowing that some day I will have to face this same thing with them. I have also been through this before and it is never easy. My heart is breaking for you as you give her the final act of love. It is so hard to say goodbye but even harder to watch them suffer. You are in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. May God give you his peace and comfort.

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. You have no idea how they have helped.

I stayed up all night with Daisy and her condition continued to deteriorate. When she got to the vet this morning, he said she had had a series of strokes and her eyesight was gone. I noticed, at one point in the middle of the night, that she was starting to bump into things, and it was so heartbreaking.

But, she passed peacefully this morning and is now with Dudley, and our other furbabies, at the Bridge.

I am exhausted and am going to try to get some sleep now. I know I have another long road ahead of me.

I am so very sorry for the losses of your dear Daisy and Dudley. Despite validation from your vet that Daisy was suffering, such a decision is never easy. You are such a great mom for making the right choice for her. Sending you many prayers and some peace knowing that your two furbabies are together again--happy and healthy over the Rainbow Bridge. Take good care of yourself and hope you get some much needed rest.

Bless you my dear .... you know when "it's time" and may wonderful memories of a long life make this time a little easier. I am crying as I type this, and have "been there" many times; it never is easy.

I already posted this morning but I just wanted to check back to see how you were doing and to let you know that I just lit a candle for your beautiful Daisy at the pet loss dot com site.

I hope that you find comfort in the fact that right now Daisy is happily running like a kitten with Dudley as well as with all of your other furbabies who reside there, and with all of her new friends thru the sunlit meadows of that most blessed place on the other side of The Bridge.
