I rarely use my land line phone. It's hooked in to my ADT system. I don't even have messaging on my land line.

People who know me call on my cell.

Yesterday (Sunday) I had 11 calls from telemarketers asking for money. Every disease imaginable.

One woman even said - "Wow - you are hard to reach - I've been calling your number for days!" She was with the Susan Komen Foundation. I have never donated to them and never would donate to them.

How do you get off lists for fundraisers?

I'm on the DNC list and average 5-9 calls a day. I check caller ID and if I don't recognize the number I let it go to the answering machine. No one leaves a message. I think charities are allowed to call but I'm not positive on that.

Get an answering machine and screen your calls. That's the best defense I've found.

If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer the phone.

I only give out my cell - so if it's important or family or friends, they know to call or text that number.

Any nuisance calls get blocked on my cell phone. I google the number and then I put a block on it. I don't even answer.

terrier, Non-profit charities are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry. But third-party telemarketers calling on behalf of the charities don't have the same protection.

The only thing you can do is:

tell the caller, politely, to cease (and if they don't, contact the parent agency involved and file a complaint), block the calls, only answer if you recognize the caller ID, or use Nomorobo (https://www.nomorobo.com/).

As soon as I get a second call from the same number and they do not leave a message, I block that number. Reverse phone number usually comes up with a ton of complaints about solicitations from the same numbers.

I don't pick up unless I'm expecting a call. Junk callers never leave messages. I got caught the other night, I was expecting a call so I picked up but it was just some guy doing a survey about banks and credit unions. I can't be bothered to waste the couple of seconds it takes to politely tell them I'm not interested, I just hang up as soon as they say who they are. They invaded my peace and quiet without my permission, I don't feel any obligation to be nice to them.

OMG me too..One time my son answered and donated in my name (LOL) to the PBA..I gave the $25 he donated and they must of sold the list. I have been hit up by every charity in the nation.

It is bad..and this one number changes the last digit 0005..0006....0007...and I have to unplug the house phone on the week end when I am babysitting for my grandson and he is sleeping..they call all day long. We are on the do not call list. I have called the # back to remove from data base..i have pressed 2 to speak with somebody...nobody answers and the mail box is full..It is aggravating...and then the number changes..

I gave to St Jude's over the holidays..they must of taken the checking info off my check and send me preprinted withdrawal slips to send in monthly for that amount! I could not believe it. They got me one time before and were nasty. I donated at work and then gave my aunt a one time donation (thru her cancer center) via check..they sent me a letter awhile later stating it has been awhile since they received a check from me..and they hope no child in my family gets cancer. I was shocked...
