I agree! Prisoners are so pampered now it's ridiculous! They act like they are entitled to live in 5 star hotel conditions! Geeze!

yes. prisons aren't run by guards, they're run by thugs and gang members. it could be so much worse, remember the recent prison riot in brazil? my gosh, the conditions there are deplorable and they house petty criminals along with murders and rapists.

It appears that most of the prisoners are illegals....why aren't they just sent back home?

Oh wait - then the people who run the for profit prisons wouldn't be making a profit!

tansy, I don't know about the ownership of this particular prison, have yet to read the article. My statement was just my opinion on the entire prison system, so many of them are private and intended to pay off dividends but either way, it's a mess of inadequate, underfunded and overly crowded.

And it is inhabited by and large with the poor.

The private prison, about 200 miles south of San Antonio, once operated as a “tent city,” or immigration detention facility for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In 2011, it removed all of its detainees after reports of abuse, and a month later it reopened as a Criminal Alien Requirement prison.

What some people don't know is that the U.S. incarcerates more people than any other country in the world, it's a big business. Some people won't like this but victimless crimes (drug possession, paid adult consenting s-x)should not be a cause for jail. People imprisoned for minor crimes learn how to be criminals in jail. They also have less opportunity for jobs with a criminal record.

Anther source of income for cities - incarcerating people for unpaid parking tickets....or unpaid library fines.
