Holy Creek on a Cracker! I have my iPhone sitting next to me...nice & quiet...and ZOWIE! An Amber Alert for Houston goes off...and yes it was super loud! Almost knocked me out of my chair!!

Went to Settings & with a quick flick, I turned that crazy sound off. Have you experienced the Amber Alert screech?

yep.............during a meeting with a client..........took us ALL by surprise.........but I still leave it on high, if someone takes a kid, I want to know, cause you never know, you might see them.................raven

Do you know the range of those alerts? This was a Houston alert & I'm in Dallas...that's several hours away.

I asked my neighbor who is a policeman and he said, it's 5 hrs. range because some kids are picked up on Friday and aren't returned on Sunday and they can be very far away. Of course in 2 days, they can be out of the country.

I've had it go off twice since I got my phone. Scared me to death, but I wouldn't dream of turning it off. I want to know about an event like that.

The first one I ever got was a couple of years ago at work. I thought it was a fire alarm.
