We have a 2 1/2 yr old, 40 lb terrier mix rescue dog and an 18 month old, 90 lb black Lab who have given us so much laughter this snowy and cold weekend! Despite the cold, when the sun was out earlier today, they went flying outside, chasing one another in the fluffy snow, sticking their faces in the drifts, and just being silly! It seemed like the more we laughed the more they performed! They dug up big sticks buried under the snow and flew around the yard as if they had discovered golden bones! We feel so blessed to have them in our lives and love them dearly!

I would love to hear other winter 4-legged kid stories! I hope everyone is safe and warm and stay that way!

Our 7 1/2 week puppy already likes the snow. Problem is she cant stay out long because the temps are so bitterly cold. She will be glad when it gets warmer and csn play more outside.

The poor dogs here are suffering from cabin fever even more than we people. It has been so bitterly cold here this weekend (wind chills in the minus 30's) and doggie feet are freezing before we can get 'the business' done outside, but as soon as it gets back into the 30's or so, I know our old guy is in for a real outside romp.

I think dogs like playing in the snow more than little kids, and put both together, and you have a fine time.

My big boy is the same way. He can't wait to bolt out the door and run through the snow. He'll even lay down in it. I think it's cute when he starts sniffing around fresh snow and comes up with a white, snowy snout. Once the fresh snow gets crusty, I feel sorry for him because it can mess with his footing a little. He'll be walking along and whoops, the crusty layer gives way and his foot falls through. He look a little awkward when that happens. When the weather permits, we'll stay out and play, but once the temps get too low it's just out to do his business and then back in. Thank God, spring's sort of in sight.

We have 11 month old German Shepherd puppies that love the snow as much as we do. The female tries to catch the snowflakes as they are falling and her little head is turning all over the place like she's got her eye on a single flake. Our male loves to dig up snowballs or chunks of ice and play hockey with in on the patio until it falls apart. They just love it!

I had a Husky for many years, and the snow made him come alive. Dig, Dig, Dig with the snow flying out behind him. Unless it was extremely cold, he was happier in my unheated garage than in the house. I would bring him in when it was bitterly cold and he would lay by the outside door because that was the coolest spot in the house.

Our ten year old Keeshond, Anika, loves the snow. DH will blow a path for her and she always leaves the path and goes in the deep part of the snow. She loves the cold, snow or no snow. She'll go out to go potty, come back in, and bark to be out again less than a minute later. She even likes to lay in the snow and on the cold patio.

Alfie, our 9 month old cairn terrier likes the snow too. He loves to kick up the snow with his nose and he will go in the deep part too.

The closest my cats get to snow is licking the snow off my boots after I come in from shoveling after yet another snow storm! We always had dogs when I was a kid & they loved the snow. They used to chase & catch snow balls & had great fun doing it.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, pictures of all the snow drama have been hard to come by: our 4-legged kids are so fast and crazy! I posted on another thread how our rescue terrier decided that since we are having a heatwave today (25 degrees!) that it was time to go out and romp for awhile. She was madly barking at the shovel while my husband was making a path out to our fence gate--hippity-hopping all around, racing through the snow, yapping all the way! Then he tossed some snow on top of her and that did it--she went bonkers! It was so funny and enjoyable!
