Shorty

I hear you! I am in CA and it is against the law, but so many do it. One time I took a picture of the license, and the driver. I reported it. IDK if anything happened, but it is suppose to. They were holding up traffic in the fast lane. They slowed to 35MPH, then would go 50MPH then slow down to 30MPH. This is on interstate 101, and they almost got hit 2X, but were clueless as to what was happening.. Jerks!

I live in a small town. My husband jogs. One time he was jogging and a young girl almost swerved into him. She was on her phone. That day , our good friend happened to be right behind that girl. He saw the whole thing. He followed her to a Taco Bell, where our friend had called the police. Long story short, our friend (who was an off duty officer) told the police she was on her phone and totally unaware she came within 1 inch of hitting a jogger (who was in the jogging lane). She denied it, but officer looked at her phone, and our friend made charges as a citizen. Our friend was furious, but he said having a daughter her age he was concerned. The girl was unaware of her environment due to talking on the phone. He told her he was pressing charges so she would learn, as it could have turned out to be something she would regret her whole life.

Driving while on cellphones!

Earlier this evening my husband and I were driving along. We came to an intersection. We did not have a stop sign. The people coming the other way did.

As we were going through the intersection, some woman came barreling through the stop sign towards us! My husband very quickly turned the opposite way and slammed on the breaks and just missed the curb. My heart was pounding and I was swearing (as my husband said like a NYC cabbie!). Of course the woman kept going.

I don't swear normally but I was mad because as plain as day I saw the woman's face (she looked to be in her 30s), and I could see her hand holding a cellphone to her ear! I could also see what looked to be children in the back seat. She was not paying attention because she was blabbing on the phone.

I am so fed up with people on phones everywhere! Especially while driving!

To add- when we first got our car (the one we were driving today) some idiot hit us in a parking lot while we were sitting in our car eating ice cream and that person (a young man) was also on his cellphone!

Thank GOD we were not hurt in either incident. (In the incident with the guy I stayed in the car while my husband exchanged info and talked to the cop, because I knew I would have yelled and flipped out on that guy for being on a cellphone).

Please, if anyone on here is talking while driving, use a headset (if you don't have a newer car in that the phone hooks up to the speaker system).

Let's give credit to the seniors out there on their phones.

I was driving down a 5 lane highway and a little white haired woman with her female companion sped by me in her tiny Honda. She was so little she could barely see over the steering wheel as she whizzed by me and I have a lead foot and a big SUV!

Gabbing on her phone she flew thru not one but two red traffic lights.

Musta been late for the canasta tournament.

It's illegal here but you see it happening all of the time anyway. Just passing a law doesn't stop misbehavior. People assume they won't have an accident or get caught, so they chatter/text away. I honestly think some people are addicted to their phones.

Yesterday my mother told me that her health aide answered her cell phone while driving my mother to the doctor. I hit the ceiling. Mom said the aide told her caller she couldn't talk and hung up immediatey but I said "Not good enough!" I told my mother to make it very clear that there would be absolutely no talking, answering, or looking at the phone while driving and that if it happens again I will speak to the aide. What is wrong with people?

I wish these things were programmed to deactivate and just take a message when the car is moving. I have heard there is an app to do so, but you can shut an app off, or never download it. It would be better if it was programmed in the phone directly. I guess it senses speed or something, at least that is what I thought I heard.

I'd like to see some statistics about accidents, death rates, and the use of electronic equipment in cars. I wonder if they are out there, and just what they would say about how this 'new' phenomenon is affecting our safety on the roads.

I see people talking on cell phones all the time when driving. I think it is the cause of many accidents today. Even with the laws, people are doing it. There is not enough police to enforce the laws. Nor does the public want to pay numerous police to enforce this law. The public complains every time they receive their tax bill.

Cell phones are not the downfall of civilization.

We see a lot of threads here dedicated to the "evil cell phone". As with all technology, they should be used with common sense. I do feel they should not be used in the car unless there is Bluetooth hands-free capability and then used responsibly. If you cannot talk and drive at the same time, just don't.

It is not a youth-only issue. In fact, the people I see most on cells while driving are middle aged to seniors.

Cell phones are a wonderful invention and like personal computers, I never ever want to be without one, but you must use your common sense.

It's illegal in Georgia to text while driving, even checking your phone at a light is illegal- prime example and this was filmed..... lady sat thru 3 turning lights while a Fulton county motorcycle policeman stood outside her window watching- she didn't pay him any attention... finally she looked at him, rolled the window down and said, "What?" He proceeded to tell her what and she said, "I was just checking email." He said that's illegal... she was given a nice ticket and sent on her way....

Husband has his phone set up thru his car, hands free- I've got OnStar in my truck and rarely use it but when we had our wreck it was well worth the money. I don't get why so many have to be on those darn phones all the time. Nothing is that important- if it is, pull over and talk or text. People just become unaware of their surroundings when on that phone..

and earbuds, don't get me started on people driving with those in their ears- they are listening to music- pay no attention the the siren behind you stupid!!! Move Over@!!!!!

Realtors and doctors and IT people come to mind as people who need to be available all the time. They've always been dependent on phones and whether it's tethered to a wire or not, they always will.

My phone is set up through bluetooth in my own vehicle. However, I cannot get my phone to sync with bluetooth in DH's car. So when it rings when I'm driving his car, I just let it go. In my car, I can press the button on my steering wheel, answer the phone and talk.

My DH works for the city and they are not allowed to talk on their cellphones while driving. They have to pull over to take a call. However, there is always a big rift between city employees and cops because cops are always seen driving around talking on the cell phones.

Oh, don't get me started............around here it's texting while driving. Walking while texting. Huge amounts of people always looking down. At least, if and when they are on the phone, they are looking up, half-way paying attention to traffic; but, while texting they are always looking DOWN. We were almost hit head-on by a looking down texting mom, driving on the opposite (our side) side of the street. Thank goodness for the simple invention of horns.
