I bought all six of my grandchildren (four girls, two boys) Steiff Teddy Bears when they were born. The last two were the years 2002 and 2000, and the 2000 one was very special. They might be worth something someday, but I can't see them ever letting them go.

I bought my own four girls teddy bears also, but couldn't afford Steiffs, yet they still have them.

I also established (not deliberately at first) colors for them as they were all so close in age (4-1/2 years apart from oldest to youngest). My oldest daughter was red, my second daughter green, my third daughter blue, and my youngest orange. So they ended up with cups, plates, spoons, and many other things, including clothing and dolls in their own "personal" color. They have all kept most of these things as well.

My oldest daughter did get an exquisite little gold bangle at her baptism, which I still have for some reason. If I ever see her again, I will give it to her if she wants it. My other babies got crucifixes.

My daughter had an infant ring and bracelet.....more for pictures and kept as a keepsake. Now, I am having a grandson, and am wondering if you have ever heard of a baby boy having this type of jewelry/keepsake? I have been googling, and know my daughter and I can do whatever we want in this regard, but I realize this is something I have never thought about before. Did your son/grandson have a ring or bracelet? TIA. Demitra

When my son and daughter were each born I got a little pin with a prayer and colored stone for each as gifts. I never put them on them but have them in their baby books. (My children are grown now). I don't know anyone now days who has their babies wear baby jewelry. But Im sure they probably exist. I know some get their babies ears pierced but I didn't do that. My daughter got her ears pierced when she was older.

I did not do jewelry for my Granddaughter born in Aug. of 2014. What I did was find still in its original box with tags of the same Teddy Bear I bought for my son right after he was born back in 1983 and gave them that. I found a photo of him on the floor playing with his bear and they have it in my Granddaughter's room on top of the boxed teddy bear. Collector's item and worth a bit right now since discontinued.

I will start looking at jewelry next. Thanks for the ideal.

What my parents did for my sister and me (and keep in mind that I'm now a senior citizen!) was to have our first pair of baby shoes "bronzed" and put into bookends with our names on each bookend. I still have mine, although a letter from my name is missing. My sister's were the most realistic. She apparently wet hers a lot and the shoes were somewhat misshapen. But they were really hers. Mine were done two years later and they are pretty pristine. Wonder where they got that done and if it can still be done. Hmm.

Sorry to divert from the original topic…..my sister had four boys, but I don't recall any type of baby jewelry given to them or their five sisters.

I don't know of anyone who got jewelry for their son/grandson, not that you can't do that if you'd like.

I bought my niece a bangle bracelet when she was 1. My sil loved it! I'm sure it's tucked away since Morgan's now 14. It sure looked cute on her when she was little.

When my brother and oldest 2 cousins were born in a short period of time (the oldest 3 grandchildren), our grandmother had 3 baby rings made out of her original wedding band. Our grandfather had died and she had remarried. This was a way to give a remembrance to the children while being respectful of both past and current husbands. They were likely never worn, but treasured by the grandchildren as a memento from their grandparents. I always thought that it was a lovely idea. Not strange at all.

My FIL bought my husband a keepsake baby ring when he was born; a very tiny delicate 14k gold band. My husband never wore the ring, but we have it as a special keepsake. I have purchased several gold baby bracelets as keepsake gifts; both were purchased from local jewelers and were engraved.
