I don't get the love

I can understand people who say they enjoy a host and their presentations, but what I don't get are the people who say they love a particular host who is a complete stranger to them. Are they missing love in their personal lives that they have to love a shopping channel host? I just don't get it.

Hmm...I'm thinking about the different ways we use the word "love".

A few minutes ago, I wrote, in another thread, that I watched the Superbowl game today, and loved it.

Obviously, I meant that I just liked it a lot. Maybe that's what some people mean when they say they love a host?

I'm talking about a person, not an inanimate object. As I said, do these people actually love the host or so they just enjoy their presentations.

Hello, K9buddy.

I'll try to explain it as best I can. I really love Nick Chavez. I don't know him personally, I haven't met him and I haven't talked to him. But I like his presentations a lot, I like how thorough he is when explaining his products, I like his smile, I like his handsome face, I like his voice, I like his laugh, I like the way he dresses and I like many other things about him (I admit it, I also have a bit of a crush on him, too ).

In other words, he has so many attributes about him that I like, I love him as a fellow human being. He makes me smile. So, in a way, yes I do love Nick Chavez. That's the best way I can explain it, but there's really no way to fully explain it. Sometimes you just have to experience these things to understand them. Just my opinion.

Look at the people who idolize movie stars, pop singers, and other celebrities. They certainly don't know them yet they have extreme admiration. I don't understand it either.

Surely you can extrapolate where that also includes people. Numerous people here said they loved various actors the other day. I doubt that kind of casual statement means a deep and abiding emotional commitment or attachment.

I don't get the extreme love or hate for the hosts. It gets creepy on both ends of the spectrum. Especially when the threads get heated with opposing comments. It's not like we actually know what they are thinking.

There are different kinds of love. Intimate, friendship, family, and for everyday things in your life. I use t know the names, maybe some on this thread do. Greek words I think.

I've never seen anyone on these boards say they hate a particular host. They may hate a hosting style, hate the fact that they don't give enough information about a product, that they use same words repeatedly, that they look in the monitor too much, etc., etc. Well, that's not hating the person. The people who say they love a host are saying things like he/she is beautiful inside and out as if they personally know the host. The hosts are basically actors trying to sell products. No one knows what they are like outside the studio. Everyone on these boards has a right to express an opinion about a host, but the 'lovers' are so invested in these salespeople that they actually go to the trouble to get posts deleted that go against a host that they 'love'. There's something very creepy about that.

I understand your point. There are a lot of people that seem to be quite involved with certain hosts. They know an awful lot about their lives. Some even know how certain hosts feel or think.

It seems to be a common thing today, people getting vested in the lives of those in the spotlight. There was a thread about a famous person and a few posters said they were proud of that person. Really? I am proud of myself or close family members or friends but not someone I do not even know. I may admire them them but how could I possibly be proud?

Maybe they are lonely and if they love a host it is no big deal as long as they are not a stalker or anything.Now if they started showing up at the host home or something that is different and not ok.

It's just an expression - not familial, not sechual, not romantic. Really just appreciation.

Listen in the real world - people love cats, vanilla ice cream, WhisperKnit turtlenecks, Jimmy Fallon, snowstorms, seaside vacations, and their left foot.

"love" is a ubiquitous word used so often it can be meaningless. let's not overanalyze.

I get what you're saying now. Now when people on message boards "love" a host and/or vendor to the point of snarling and being horrible to other posters who might have a differing opinion, that's not love or admiration. That's just being aggressive, in my opinion.

As for people who think they know everything about the hosts lives...........well, that one is on the hosts. Many of the QVC hosts and vendors have Facebook pages where they put their entire life on Facebook. They post what they ate, what they didn't eat, what they like, what they don't like, their children, their pets, their home decor, what they do all year 'round, etc. So, if it looks like a person or group of people know a ton about a QVC host(s), it's because the host put info on Facebook.

The love word is most often used loosely....just like hate......love/hate can be pretty strong words.....generally have more impact over using words like/dislike.
