Snowstorm in Midwest as it moves East

So, those of us in the Chicago area have gotten one of our worst snowstorms ever.

We are still under a "blizzard warning." Right now, there is about 14 inches or more of snow here.

Can't even see out of my windows! Started to snow last night and then the snow got heavier and the WIND was added to it.

This storm is now moving east.

I am really curious to see how much more news coverage and more important it gets as it moves toward the east coast!

Western NY here expected to get a foot of snow, YUCK! So sick of winter!

I can't imagine it getting more coverage than the weather channel gave Chicago today. I felt bad for the poor guy out on Lakeshore Dr doing his stand-up. The grey and the waves were quite impressive.

We got hit pretty good here in Nebraska also. Looks like we will have to dig our way out tomorrow if we want to get about town. Not sure the amount of the snowfall but I do know that we have drifts sidewalk and driveway at least 2 to 3 feet high.

School are closed today. I have over a foot of snow. The drifts are especially bad though. The wind was brutal yesterday.

We were away for the weekend and cut it short because we knew we were going to have a hard time getting home on Sunday.

Yeah, this was some storm! Chicago got hit worse than we did. I am farther north than you, up the lake in WI.

I know that we got something like eleven inches of snow out of this storm, I think. It was pretty brutal. They were calling it a blizzard, and telling people to stay off of the roads.

As a former Midwestern girl I always get a kick out of "oh you got hammered in the Midwest.....oh so what". Oh you got hammered in the East.....the sky is falling!! I'm sure the Weather Channel will be out in full force counting every flake.

Yep! It's not a snowstorm unless it hits New England. For some reason they totally freak out when it snows during the winter. Ha! We have 3ft drifts in our driveway and our entries are impassable. However, it's beautiful!

Hi weather watchers. I am in Nova Scotia, east coast of Canada. We are expecting the storm to start in a couple of hours. By the time it hits here we will have snow, then freezing rain and then rain. Until this past month, we have had very little snow this winter. Last winter was just awful. No end to the snow and cold.

I had to laugh when I read above that it's nothing until it hits the east coast. There is something to that I think. Everyone here talks weather all winter long. The only thing I'm worried about is getting to Florida for a winter break. Last year we spent 23 hours on a trip that should have been eight at the most!

The past 24 hours I have talked to my 86 year old dad who lives in Homer Glen and friends who are on the Southside of Chicago and a few of the Southwest Suburbs.

They have snow blown and shoveled 4-5 times and more is on the way.

I am truly fortunate and blessed that we get away for the winters. I feel bad when I see the news but like DH says, we lived in it for years (and survived) and if we had to go back, we could but....we do not want to.

I'm home sick with a terrible cold, looking out my central NY window at the immense amount of snow already on the ground...and it's still snowing. Last month I was visiting my daughter and grandchildren who live in Orando. What is wrong with this picture?

Maybe because all the Weather Channel talks about all Summer and Fall are tornadoes and flooding in the Midwest and Hurricanes in the South, so now it's our turn.

But contrary to what you think and say: we don't freak out in New England, We let Virginia, DC, and the Carolinas have that privilege. We embraced SNOW. (OK, coastal flooding and storm surge, not so much).

As some one else said we don't freak out here we deal with it. And if the world financial markets were out somewhere in the middle of no where in stead of NYC I would think it would get the same air time as well.

Here in eastern MA, we have almost 10" on top of the 2-3 feet we got last week and it's still snowing hard (will be through this evening according to the forecast). As the news interviews people who are either out trying to dig out enough to get to work or those who are trying to travel, every last one says "Hey, it's New England" with a shrug regardless of whether or not they actually like snow. We don't freak. I guess I've never really noticed how much airtime each part of the country gets. I don't feel much of a need for attention so I don't keep a tally. I do notice when the weather is deadly regardless of where it is. We had a couple of elderly people die last week; one was trying to clear a vent on the side of his house during the blizzard. I'd rather be making my way through the storm to check on my neighbors who don't answer their phones than sit watching to see how much coverage the media is giving the storm.

I have to go talk health insurance at the local mall (we have a kiosk)l at 11AM and the plowman just plowed me in! For the second time this morning!!!

My son is out shoveling...it's minus 5 windchill.

I'm sure the mall can wait...I doubt too many people will be out shopping on a Monday morning in a snowstorm!!!

I don't know what our final totaly is but we are under a winter storm warning until noon. However, it's pretty much stopped snowing.

The temps though have dropped over 15 degrees and the wind is supposed to pick up and cause blowing and drifting now.

All local schools in the county are closed today. They all closed last night before the SuperBowl.
