Kenji Goto, R.I.P.

"Goto was born in 1967 in the city of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from Hosei University in Tokyo in 1991, he worked for a media production company before establishing his own, Independent Press, in 1996.

He also worked with U.N. organizations including UNICEF and the U.N. refugee agency.[4]

Reporting from war-torn countries around the world, especially in Africa and the Middle East, he focuses on the life and humanity of the ordinary citizens in difficult times.

His works include books and DVDs on blood diamonds and child soldiers in Sierra Leone, the Rwanda conflict and its survivors, a teenage mother in an Estonian "AIDS village", and girls and education in Afghanistan.

In 2006, he won the Sankei Children's Book Award for his 2005 book titled Daiyamondo yori Heiwa ga Hoshii.[5]

His video reports have appeared on Japanese national networks including NHK and TV Asahi. Goto converted to Christianity in 1997,[6] and is a member of a United Church of Christ in Japan and a member of a parish in Den-en-chofu, Tokyo.[7][8]

In October 2014, Goto's wife had a baby.[6] He also has an older daughter from a previous marriage.[6]

On Saturday, the 31st of January 2015, Goto was beheaded by ISIS (according to Western sources). A video was later released by ISIS of the beheading." He was 47 years old.

This is so tragic. He was a remarkable man and his murder was heinous.

I watch N H K (Japanese tv station) and this news ran across the bottom of the screen and my heart just sank. So sad.

Sorry to hear. He didn't do anything to deserve his ending.

Wonder what the Japanese people in Japan think about his murder. I know in the past they beheaded one another when they found someone deficient in some way. I don't think ISIS will be given sympathy or mercy by many nations.

Well let see how many countries ISIS has angered. I for one would like to see us all come as one unit and take them out. The USA should be leading this and getting serious RIGHT NOW. What are we all waiting for? Another thing is ;charge this deserter and recapture the ""armed insurgents (really?) we traded for. White House is going down the wrong path. The next two years is going to feel like forever.

It's very sad, but I'm about on sadness overload. I tend to shut these stories anymore. I can't absorb much more of this hate and murder.

I wasn't in most of the day and heard about this on PBS News, but very briefly. CNN isn't doing news at the moment and all the other news stations did not seem to be doing world news. I came here hoping to find out more about this shocking and tragic event.

I'm sorrowful, but there's only so many ways one can say ISIS su.cks. It's such a shame an innocent life was taken.

Well . . . IF I were to say what I felt . . . sand into glass . . . I'm sorry for the innocents but much like 1944 or thereabouts. It will take an act of truly horrific magnitude to send a clear and direct message that the U.S.A. means business. Anything less than that . . . years & years of conflicted messages, less than serious messages and those they do not take seriously. If it takes a message of that magnitude. Then someone needs to SEND IT and Send It NOW.
