This has probably already been posted on here!

Today, People Magazine has confirmed he is transitioning to be a woman.

So, let's say it's true.

What I don't understand is how a man can be 65, a former Olympic champion, married more than once, multiple children, and then claim to want to be a woman.

Did anyone in his life see this coming? It just seems a real puzzle to me.

I don't know, there has always been something about him that raised a red flag for me... Who knows, maybe he feels he's finally at a point in life where he wants to live strictly for him and not do what he might have felt was expected... Too bad for him he didn't come to the realization sooner...

Why? Really? Because almost no one came out long ago, and because he would have had to protect his career. And most likely, he didn't come out for the same reason most gay people didn't come out. Because their family would have rejected them.

Surely this can't be news to people, that numerous gay and trans people had been married and had children before they felt strong enough to change, to let themselves become who they were.

No, not Bruce Jenner. Did you notice I asked Why. That was in reference to her question as to how he could claim to want to be a woman after all those years. We have known about this phenomena for quite some time now. THAT is what is not news.

His 1st wife said on tv that she divorced him for this reason. He hid it very well from the public - but people around him knew about it.

I understand what you meant Noel. When Jenner was a young man he had to live the façade because he would not have been accepted any other way.

Yes, that same common way of handling it happened with someone we know. Married, had three children, was active in church, served honorably in the military, waited until his father died, and then came out as a gay man.

In defense of the OP, waiting until he was 65 does seem odd. I just wonder if this is just another publicity stunt from a family that will do just about anything for attention and stay in the media.

So was I. There's been so much information out there and available about all this... Articles, news stories, TV shows.

Even the entertainment media is wondering, and have said the jury's out - that only time will tell it it's for publicity.

If his first wife knew about his leanings and divorced him, he could easily have not married again and just lived a quiet transsexual lifestyle, as much as there is such a thing.

Bruce Jenner being a huge media name was decades ago. Heaven only knows why he married Kris Kart-rashian. It was well before the family went for Queens of Trash TV.

His timing speaks of both intent to garner publicity and as much $$ as possible, AND revenge against the whole -Trashian tribe, particularly Kris.

I don't believe this for a minute. I remember there was a big spread in People Magazine when they split, and Chrystie (his first wife) said in the interview that he left her for Linda Thompson, Elvis Presley's former girlfriend. She seemed devastated about it. Two issues later there was a letter in the Letters section from Thompson, slamming Chrystie. The way I remember it, she did not divorce him, he divorced her.

I kept seeing a thread about Jenner on these forums, but since I've never had any interest in the man, I kept bypassing it. When yet another appeared, I decided to look at it. I must say I'm stunned, I never expected this at all. But I doubt his first wife had any clue about this.

From what I've read, Kris has been very supportive of him all through this.
