Love to have a few wolves here on our eastern end of LI to nip the burgeoning deer population because what we are doing-- controlled hunting with bows and arrows and/or guns is not working. Even using birth control or sterilization is not working either.

I love them, too, but it's all about balance, as we can see from the report. So many other species are now allowed to flourish.

Sylvia: You must be familiar with the Wolfwood Refuge. If you go to their website and look on the wolves who have sinced passed you will see Lakota and Willow. I had the pleasure to meet them both at Estes Park a few years ago. I have a sweet pic of me hugging Willow and Lakota sitting by my side. My heart broke when both passed away.

Yes, I'm definitely going to that. I do remember Willow and Lakota. I began following the Mexican greys. I don't know if they are succeeding or not. Ranchers and traffic are taking their toll on these small shy wolves. I don't understand People's attitudes.

The Mexican Greys are very rare in the USA now, if any still remain.

I'd love to voluteer at Wolfwood but I don't have a background in biology, etc. They seem to have more interns in those positions.

I've been to Yellowstone several times and never saw a deer or met anyone who has seen one. The Natl Park Service says they are ""occasional"" visitors to the park. I have been told that deer and elk usually don't share the same range and Yellowstone is full of elk. Makes me wonder....

Kachina, here in CO, there are deer and elk also moose. I've seen them browsing in the same areas.
