Daily Positive Thread for Saturday

To know someone doesn't mean to know every detail of that
person's life. It means to feel affection, confidence and to
believe in that person. Lord, may I really know You and have
it reflect in how I treat others.

Scripture for the day:

"He has said, 'I will never leave you or forsake you.' So we can say
with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can
anyone do to me?'" ~Hebrews 13:5-6

Meditation for the day:

"I will never leave you or forsake you." Down through the centuries,
thousands have believed in God's constancy, tirelessness, and unfailing
love. God has love. Then forever we can be sure of God's love. God
has power. Then forever we can be sure;, in every difficulty and
temptation, of God's strength. God has patience. Then always there is
one who can never tire. God has understanding. Then always we can
understand and be understood. Unless we want God to go, God will never
leave us. God is always ready with the strength and power we need.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may feel that God's love will never fail. I pray that I
may have confidence in God's unfailing power.

Greetings my friends! How was your day? It was another really nice day out
today - a little windy, but nice. We went out for supper with Lori and her
friend Elicia, to Buffalo Wild Wings, and had all different flavors of
wings - very tasty and fun to be all together. Elicia will move in with
Lori maybe around December - and then will be looking for a house. She is
staying with her Mom, and her Dad died of cancer last Dec. and her Mom isn't
doing well at all - she turned to drink, and Elicia comes home from work,
sees her Mom passed out - and she doesn't want help, doesn't want to quit,
and it's so hard on her that she's going to move out. Please remember
Gayle, her Mom, in your prayers, and Elicia. They all call Elicia Tish for
short. It was Ethel's turn to call Sister LaDonna today to see how she is.
Says she's better today - she has some good days and some bad, yesterday was
bad, but today was better. She did a little walking today, so it was so
good to hear something positive about her!! It's my turn to call her
tomorrow. We all take turns to call her each day so she doesn't get too
many calls, and then the one who calls her calls the rest of us to let us
know how she's doing. I do hope and pray I hear good news tomorrow also!

Are You Blind to Your Own Goodness?

Rom 15:14-21 / Lk 16:1-8

In the very first sentence of today’s epistle, St. Paul gives us a glimpse
at one of the qualities that made him such a good man and such a powerful
bearer of God’s Good News. It was his ability to see the goodness in every
person he met. Not only could he see the goodness in every person, but he
knew how tell them about it, so they could rejoice in it and draw courage
from it as well.

That’s something we don’t do nearly enough, either for others or for
ourselves. It’s a shame, because goodness, heroism, and all sorts of
accomplishments against long odds are present in abundance in so many of us.
And they could be such a source of encouragement and confidence as we face
the next challenges in our lives. Moreover, we know that our achievements
aren’t ours alone. They’re the result of God working with and in us. Yet,
when was the last time we thanked God for them, really thanked him? Strange,
isn’t it, how our prayers tend to focus on our needs and our faults and
failures.

So here are some questions to ponder. Have I named my successes out loud and
thanked God for them? Have I helped my friends and family do the same? Have
I drawn courage and confidence from what God and I have done together so
far?

If any of my answers are “no,” I’ve been missing some of life’s special
joys. Isn’t now the right time to change that? Indeed it is.

Silence gives us a new outlook on everything.
We need silence to be able to touch souls. The essential thing is not what
we say but what God says to us and through us. Jesus is always waiting for
us in silence. In that silence, He will listen to us; there He will speak to
our soul, and there we will hear His voice.

Take :
the root of faith
the leaves of hope
the rose of charity
the violet of humility
the lily of purity
the wormwood of contrition
the myrrh of mortification
the wood of the Holy Cross

Tie them all together into a bouquet with the string of resignation. Put
them on to boil over the fire of Divine Love in the vessel of prayer,
together with the mystic wine of holy joy and the mineral water of
temperance, all securely covered with the lid of silence; put it on in the
fresh air of meditation and then take a cup of it in the morning and in the
evening and you will enjoy spiritual health.

When I say good morning I mean to say:

G-od
O-ffers us His
O-utstanding
D-evotion to

M-ake us
O-bedient &
R-eady for a
N-ew day with Him.
I-nspire others please, and
N-ever forget
G-od loves you!

The Bargain

During one of the many Reformation battles, a young soldier found himself
and his army being soundly defeated by the enemy.
He and his comrades hastily retreated from the battlefield in defeat,
running away in fear of their very lives.

The enemy gave chase. The young man ran hard and fast, full of fear and
desperation, and soon found himself cut off from his comrades. The soldier
eventually came upon a rocky ledge containing a cave.

Knowing the enemy was close behind, and that he was exhausted from the
chase, he chose to hide there. After he crawled in, he fell to his face in
the darkness, desperately crying to God to save him and protect him from his
enemies. He made a bargain with God. He promised that if God saved him, he
would serve Him for the remainder of his days.

When he looked up from his despairing plea for help, he saw a spider
beginning to weave its web at the entrance to the cave.

As he watched the delicate threads being slowly drawn across the mouth of
the cave, the young soldier pondered its irony. He thought, "I asked God for
protection and deliverance, and He sent me a spider instead. How can a
spider save me?"

His heart was hardened, knowing the enemy would soon discover his hiding
place and kill him. Soon he did hear the sound of his enemies, who were now
scouring the area looking for those in hiding.

One soldier with a gun slowly walked up to the cave's entrance. As the young
man crouched in the darkness, hoping to surprise the enemy in a last-minute
desperate attempt to save his own life, he felt his heart pounding wildly
out of control.

As the enemy cautiously moved forward to enter the cave, he came upon the
spider's web, which by now was completely strung across the opening. He
backed away and called out to a comrade, "There can't be anyone in here.
They would have had to break this spider's web to enter the cave. Let's move
on."

Years later, this young man, who made good his promise by
becoming a preacher and evangelist, wrote about that ordeal.

What he observed has stood by me in times of trouble, especially during
those times when everything seemed impossible:

"Where God is, a spider's web is as a stone wall.
Where God is not, a stone wall is as a spider's web."

NO GARDEN WITHOUT TURNIPS:
1. Turnip for meetings
2. Turnip for service
3. Turnip to help one another

AND OUR GARDEN WE MUST HAVE THYME:
1. Thyme for each other
2. Thyme for family
3. Thyme for friends

Water freely with patience and cultivate with love. There is much fruit in
your garden because
you reap what you sow.

with patience and love so that your garden yield much fruit for you to share
