The cost to mail a letter or package here in the US is a whole lot cheaper and gets there faster than in other countries around the world.

Actually, not necessarily true, ms. Katz. It took a package from halfway round the world to get to our local post office 2 days. After a week, our local P.O. still hadn't delivered it. My soninlaw had to go in person to retrieve it.

I too have bought Forever Stsmps 'not forever, but a loooong time',,,and each time I buy 100 of them, I notice the price increase.

One example doesn't define the efficacy of the USPS. After thousands upon thousands of packages going through my hands, the problems were small in number.

Absolutely! Just ask one of our Canadian friends about postage or anyone in Europe. We don't have it bad at all. I also buy Forever stamps at Safeway, saves me a trip to the local mail box branch/station.

I have a sad post office. Packages are left willynilly, are three weeks late, if they come at all. Pick ups disappear, or are stolen from the mailbox. Lines are forever, as people have packages and transactions to all four corners of the earth. Still, we have some efficient and kindly mail persons!

Really? If Europeans had to pay for what is not subsidized by there Gov't there would be rioting. Oh wait they are that is why there is so much unrest over high unemployment and sky rocketing prices on things.

That has not happened here. And we are paying more on groceries etc and will be paying more now that ACA will start to roll in. Seriously.

I don't think the cost of a stamp is much at all. We still mail all of our bills out. I also send greeting cards. Always will as long as theyre in business.

Also my husband sells some things on ebay (mostly cds and books). Their shipping is less expensive than UPS and the post office is closer than UPS or Fed Ex places in our area!

The cost of a stamp is .49

Postcard stamps are .34

And if your local post office is not delivering packages after three weeks, they would be in trouble. Everything is monitored now with tracking. If a package is tracked to that office, they are responsible for clearing that tracking by either scanning it delivered or attempted, that day. If not, it goes onto a report as a failure. If they have failures, the head honchos would be calling that supervisor. So its a good idea to get tracking on all your parcels.
