RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

I responded to a post here and noticed that Bluegrassbaby had a signature line about Random Acts of Kindness ...

I have been doing Random Acts of Kindness for over 20 years now after hearing a sermon in church centered around Random Acts of Kindness ... I said to myself, "I can do that" ...

At first it really was "random" and eventually evolved to "daily" ... now it just comes naturally ...

Since it is the New Year ... today would be a good day for all of us to make Random Acts of Kindness a New Year's Resolution ...

I invite you to join Bluegrassbaby and I and make Random Acts of Kindness a part of your life ...

It feels so good ...

The Random Acts movement started years ago. You would never know it from my posting here on Viewpoints that I have been doing this daily also. On days when I can't get out or do something for someone else, I am reminded to be good to myself.

I'd rather do things for people I know or strangers who have a specific need.

Understandable. I usually know a cause or a need or a person/s who can use a kind act, smile, or gesture.

I try to do that everyday, if possible. Being a caregiver, I have lots of opportunities! It makes my day!

Sometimes a simple smile or a little Hello are all you need to do. It feels good to have someone smile back. Hopefully you both gain.

Honestly I truely admire those that do Random Acts of Kindness or any type of Charitable good and keep it to themselves. Like others have said sometimes all it takes is a smile or hug to make someones day.

I'd like to share a thought.

To me, there is charity giving. That is, to me, mandated by God, to ease the suffering of our fellow man.

Then there is kindness. Just being kind, by doing a random act, can have nothing to do with need, or suffering or charity. It is just because, it is just kindness, it is not vetted, or even often well thought out or qualified. It isn't always expensive or dramatic. It often isn't recognized by anyone but the giver and the recipient. There doesn't have to be a material or physical need to do it. It is good for the soul of both. It is wonderful.

Some things we've done - in a grocery store, put a coupon right where the product is for anyone who wants it, I saw on a You-Tube where some one paid the toll for someone else at a toll both, and that carried on and on, another I saw on Facebook, one boy helped a lady up who fell, then she saw someone in need of assistance and she helped that person and on and on that went, very inspirational watching people helping people with randam acts of kindness. It is great to do this daily if the opportunity comes. Thanks, Humpty Dumpty for this great thread! Let's let our light shine!

Wonderful Acts of Kindness are the ones we do without telling everybody about it, not looking for a pat on the back or praise, imo,

our real and true intention to help others without bragging is known better "when no one is watching except God", as the old saying goes.:-)

The gentleman that gave the movement it's second life was actually a blind collage professor here in my city...........he gave it as an assignment for his class..........the whole thing went viral......again.....our community embraced the concept, which isn't a stretch for a farming community.....ever since that, I have always practiced it..........sometimes it's something big, sometimes small.........................................raven

The cool, random, and kind thing about these acts is that they are not broadcast or bragged about. The person does NOT take credit. Then it's good. Otherwise, it just seems like it's about the 'giver'. That just seems wrong to me.

It's wonderful to see people want to do something for somebody else, as long as they don't make it about them instead.

Yes you said it better than I did, real giving comes quietly, humbly, without boasting, without telling others by "tooting your own horn" as my Pastor says. :-)

You said it well. I'm non-religious so, other than that part of it, I TOTALLY agree with what you and MominOhio said.

It just always bothered me when people took credit for good deeds. It always rather negated the whole 'good deed' aspect of it for me.

Being able to do something for someone else makes me feel good, but sometimes being on the receiving end does brighten my day.

I don't mind the reminder to look for some of those opportunities either.

That's interesting.....I had never heard that before.

he didn't start the movement.....a woman actually started it......he just resurrected it as a class assignment for his students............when it went viral, they had him on television here, bunch of stuff like that................................raven
