Just wanted to say that my son saw the movie today(he read the book) and couldn't say enough good things about it-said it was a packed house and that when it was over everyone stood up and applauded. You don't see that much.

My cousin said the same thing, that when it was over everyone clapped and stood up.

I wonder how many of the bad reviews are jealousy. My cuz had not read the book and she got an excellent feel for Louie's life. And when she told me some reviewers said the POW scenes were unnecessarily brutal, I rattled off a bunch of things done to him, the most disgusting things, and asked if those were in the movie and of course she said wow, no.

lori, that is so interesting that they clapped there as well as here. Pretty cool, actually. Unnessesarily brutal??? BECAUSE IT HAPPENED!!! And with today's movies? It was probably mild. People are so dumb.

I don't want to see it either. Not because of the violence because as good as the movie might be it will never measure up to the book.

(I don't feel that way about every book. But I do about this one.)

I recently heard about this movie, but in my mind, very few movies are ever a good as the books they are based off of. I guess it's considered an "old" book, but the Amazon Kindle addition I purchased within the past two days was $2.99......a steal! Poodlepet2

We're finally getting to the movie theater to see this today. I've read and heard great reviews on it. The only negative I've heard, if you want to call it that, is that Angelina Jolie didn't tell the rest or most important part of the story...when Louis Z. met Dr. Billy Graham and became a Christian. I'm not a great book reader, but I think I need to read more about Louis Z.

I was going to 're-read"Hawaii" for the umpteenth time, then I decided to read "Unbroken" instead. I couldn't put it down. I spent a good part of NY day reading, couldn't sleep, and I just finished it. I cried through a good part of it: man's inhumanity to fellow humans is just something I will never grasp. The resilience, bravery and strength of the POWs was incredible:...this is so worth reading: I would love to see it on school reading lists. Poodlepet2

Just got back. We enjoyed the movie, although it's hard to watch the beatings over and over again. Louie clung to something his brother said as his guiding life principle and it served him well when times got tough. How he endured so much is truly amazing.

JealOus, I read this book within a twenty- four hour period, but I keep on thinking about it.... Louis was a rotten kid- no redeeming qualities about him- but his parents never gave up. His family never gave up..... In reading this, I think about the number of families who thought they had a bad Apple on their hands....and just gave up..... His brother was really the one who gave LoiLouis (sic) a chance, and a reason to live somewhat of a life......now that I have read the book, it's kind of haunting....in the end, I do believe it brings the message of Adonai's plan- or Jeseus- however you would want to put it or believe- it is a powerful story.
