(CNN) -- Former President George H. W. Bush has been taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure after experiencing shortness of breath, according to a statement from his office.

Bush, 90, served as the nation's 41st President and is the father of 43rd President George W. Bush.

Bush, a Republican, was hospitalized in November 2012 with bronchitis but recovered after two months.

Before becoming President, Bush served as Vice President under Ronald Reagan.

I remember him being in the hospital in 2012 and thought he was hospitalized for such a long time. I didn't think he was going to make it then but I was obviously so wrong. I hope he gets better soon also.

I admire the new relationship he has with Bill Clinton. They forged a bond to help those in need and it shows that political ties really mean nothing when it comes to humanitarian needs. He now calls Bill and Hillary Clinton friends, and I think that should be a message to all political parties to stop all the political rhetoric and get along.

Prayers for President Bush, his wife Barbara, and the entire Bush family. He is an honorable man and I wish him a quick recovery.

This is what Reuters is reporting:

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec 23 (Reuters) - "... Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, 90, was hospitalized in Houston, Texas, late on Tuesday after experiencing shortness of breath, a spokesman for the 41st commander-in-chief said in a statement.

Bush was taken by ambulance to the Houston Methodist Hospital as a precaution, and "will be held for observation, again as a precaution," the spokesman said..."

ITA! Bill & 41&43 have all become very close friends! I heard Bill comment that he is referred to as "The brother from another mother & the black sheep of the family- LOL"! I love how people can put aside their political differences & become genuine friends! A good lesson for all! Best wishes to Prez. GHWB!

ITA. I was also very surprised to read that Nancy Pelosi and 43 are very good friends; in fact, NP sent 43 flowers for his birthday. That one was a huge surprise to me, but I think it happens more than we think. I feel that we, as Americans, inadvertently let the media and negative campaign ads whip us into a frenzy against the opposing party and let them convince us that the other candidate is truly evil. It's all just business to them, but many Americans take it seriously, while they're buddy buddies behind the scenes.

I truly hope that 41 can make it home for Christmas as being in the hospital won't be a lot of fun. I met a chef that used to cook for 41 and Barbara and he said they're very nice, down-to-earth people. He was very surprised that their kitchen in Kennebunkport still has the original cabinets and that the house was very warm and homey, but had no fancy furnishings.
