Batten Down the Hatches!!!!!

The northern coast of California (heart of the redwoods) is about to get one big, fat, juicy storm tomorrow. NOAA is predicting wind gusts as high as 50 (!) miles an hour!!! Plus, copious amount of rain.

Heaven knows that we need every single drop of rain that we can get to help alleviate this drought that we are in, but good grief!

I'm glad that I have tomorrow off from work. I sure as heck would not want to be driving on the highway in that weather.

Yes, I'm planning on it. I have a meeting tomorrow afternoon, and many members of the group are older. I'm wondering if it will be cancelled? The direct route I take to get there, has lots of old trees on it, and that could be risky in high winds. I could also take a longer, but safer route.

It will be interesting to see what it's like in the morning.

Tomorrows forecast from NOAA:

Rain, mainly after 11am. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 66. Windy, with a south southeast wind 23 to 28 mph increasing to 31 to 36 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tomorrow nights forecast:

Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 54. Windy, with a south southeast wind 29 to 33 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Living on Lake Michigan, we receive 50+mph winds quite frequently. It's not too bad. Windows might shake at times and if you drive sometimes there are falling branches, but besides that, it's just wind. Just don't use an umbrella!!! Ha!

I just heard on the local news, that high elevation areas might see 80 mph winds!

Yikes!! ..... all I've seen for Southern CA so far is that on Friday we have a 100 % chance of precipitation!

All we hear about in the rest of the country (I am in the CHicago area) is how drought ravaged northern California is.

My daughter has visited Santa Cruz recently.

I hope you get some much needed rain.

The drought will affect how the old, large trees react to the high winds and inches of rain. When everything here is very dry and a severe thunderstorm comes through - many trees here come down and this is the East Coast. The draught does affect the tree's root systems making it hard for them to weather the new extreme conditions.
