Need some good words of wisdom

I am really down in the dumps. I moved into a new home last January and had all my Christmas ornaments the kids made and special ones from family and friends through the years in one box. Well, the box is nowhere to be found. I have gone all through the house and garage and I can't find the box. Too make it worse my husband passed 3 years ago and these ornaments had very special meaning. I know they were only "things" but I just feel so bad.

Anyone have some pearls, or words of wisdom to get me over this slump.

I understand, but I just bet they are in the house somewhere. We misplace things constantly, or just forget where we put them, but eventually, they turn up. Keep looking, or relax in the knowledge that they are somewhere in your home.

Hi Bookbabe. I misplace things constantly, and most of the time I evenutally find them, but I lost a treasured item given to me by my grandmother that I was very close to several years ago and still am not able to locate it. It's extremely frustrating and saddening. I'm really sorry this has happened to you and about your husband. Do you think buying a few new things may cheer you up? I realize they will not replace the items that are near and dear to your heart. Just a suggestion.

I would invite the kids over to make new ornaments.

Or, this Christmas, ask them to buy you (or make you) two ornaments: one that represents their childhood self and one the adult self would pick out.

I always look at "the now" and the future when it comes to things important that pertain to my life and those close to me. It is always painful for most to lose things of their past, be it humans/animals or material things.

Most have a family and/or a close friend and talking with them many times helps us humans.

My main objective is to stay Optimistic regardless of the trials in my life. The good has always prevailed for me over the bad, and there have been some bad times for those close to me and myself.

Very sad that they are gone. Do you happen to have any old photos or videos of past x-mas trees with the ornaments? If so, you should treasure the photos/videos where you can see them. Wishing you the best!

Does your home have an attic and do you have easy access to it? Since the box is used only once a year, perhaps that is where it's located. I just know it's somewhere in the house and when you stop looking so hard for it that's just when it will turn up.

I've "lost" items on occasion too. When I stop looking or even when I'm looking for something else that's when it turns up. Funny how that works. I also like Lola's suggestion (post #5).

If you don't find them, take a little time to grieve and then set up a plan for a whole new look. In time you may run into something at an antique shop or garage sale that brings tears to your eyes and renews old memories. Your memories will still be there and if it makes you happy you can get it. You may find that you don't want to though because you will realize that those memories won't leave you.

When we moved to our home now, I looked and looked for my beautiful navity set. Couldn't find it anywhere. I asked my husband to go up into the attic and look in every box up there. We even arranged to go back over to the old home (we were renting it out) and looked in the attic there.

The next spring, we were moving things around in the garage, and there it was: in a Penzoil box! Safe and sound. I'm hoping that's how you will find your things.

You may not be able to find them now. However, things can pop up when we aren't looking for them. I too am still looking for some special ornaments in my basement. I haven't given up yet. Good Luck!

Does your car have a trunk? Maybe when you were moving, since this box of items was so special to you, you put it in the trunk of your car and forgot about it. Just a thought.

It seems like the most special stuff I make a point of putting somewhere really safe, or in the case of moving, where nobody else would handle them and possibly break them, and then I forget where that was.

I'm sorry for all that you've suffered. The ornaments are real and symbolic of what you've already lost. However, don't give up. My husband and I thought we had lost a very important possession. We thought we had looked all over, to no avail. Months later I was cleaning aound the fireplace and found it next to the logs, hidden by the log holder. To this day I don't know how it wound up there...the dog? the grandkids? Most likely I got sidetracked and put it down without thinking. So don't give up. The ornaments may reappear when you're looking for something else. Meanwhile, buy some cute ornaments and keep looking. Good luck!

I am sorry for your loss but hang on to the memories. Hopefully, the items will still show up, even if not when expected.
