Rona Jaffe - The Road Taken.

I had just finished Five Women so I wanted to read more by this author (I hadn't read her in years).

I am reading The Road Taken which tells the tale of four generations of one family with the main character born in 1900. It could be a history book, it is so detailed yet the events are woven magically into the storyline. It chronicles her life for one hundred years.

I am just amazed at the number of medical, military, social, musical, literary, etc. references that make one stop and say. Oh yeah, yeah, that was when that happened.

What a wonderful read and I am only up to the 60s.

Hard to put down but also the kind of book you hate to have end.

I've been reading Rona Jaffe since she wrote The Best of Everything back in the 1950s. I've read all of her books. Some were better than others, but most were just amazing. I was so sorry to hear when she passed away.

The Best of Everything. Don't get me started. The book! The song! I even loved the movie. And I had it on my Direct tv recorded programs then switched to Dish tv and lost it!!! I didn't even know Rona Jaffe was still around. sunny, were you into the Frank Yerby books, too? A different genre, I know, but it was about the same time period?

Rona Jaffe is a name I haven't heard in years. Thanks for the review and the reminder of this author. Adding more books to my list!

Judaline, she isn't still around; she died in 2005.

thank you I think I found the title of a book I remember reading in high school and would like to read again someday. JUDAS, MY BROTHER The Story of the Thirteenth Disciple by Frank Yerby.

I have to agree, The Best of Everything, classic soaper and one of my faves. Great movie of 1959 with great cast.

Hi Judaline, no I never heard of Frank Yerby. I was about 12 when The Best of Everything came out, and I was able to take it out of the library in paperback form. Believe it or not, I still have it! I'm a Brooklyn Public Library scofflaw

I read the book so many times it more or less fell apart, but I do have all the pages. Just like you, I loved the book, the movie and of course the song! I also loved the beautiful actresses, especially Suzy Parker who was just gorgeous. I loved the handsome men although they were mostly dogs. Rona Jaffe was definitely my kind of author.

I don't read too many novels, but "Class Reunion" was an absolute favorite....geezer, it's been years since I have read her works. OP, I just bought the book for my Kindle-based on your opinion and others, I know I will not regret it. Typically I read non-fiction and history, and I am filling in with classics that I didn't have time to read, or didn't make time for, but every now and then, it's just wonderful to read a great novel without predictability. That's one thing I loved about the two Jaffe novels I read- they had real outcomes. Poodlepet2
