Hi you all,

I do live in The District and although I have times where I couldn't stand to hear about his entanglements, over all, the man was a superman. He was always showing he cared for people, no matter what. Very important, he helped to get teenagers from the streets and got them a summer job. Over the past week, listening and reading the Wash. Post, on him, many people started their young life with a hand from the "Mayor for Life" and only have learned as much this week. There was an extremely long funeral service in the Convention Service, and many people spoke - and made a lot of sense, b ut always they said that Barry loved people, and would always let that show through, no matter what their or his situation was. And that alone is admirable. He was also a great Council man. The city lost a great person, and he will be missed sorely.

Magenta

I choose to remember people at their highest points in life and not their worst moments. For that reason, I still hold admiration for former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, the "Mayor for Life," as he had been dubbed. He helped quite a bit to lift folks into the middle class.

Watching the coverage of his funeral service on a local channel, I am reminded of the many good things this man did.

[This post was not placed as a lightning rod for nasty discussion, just as a way of acknowledging the loss of someone who was kind and helpful to others.]

R.I.P., Marion Barry.

None of us should be judged by the worse thing we did it life. Marion Barry, born in Mississippi during the depression and raised in the segregated South accomplished much for the cause of civil and human rights.

I have lived in Maryland since 1973, so I've been around for many mayors, and I agree with your views.

He wasn't perfect, but someone said recently, "he had many human frailties, but did great things in spite of them."

He was loved by many and seemed to never lose touch with how to get things done.
