1965 Movie Sand Piper

Watching right now. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton...LOVE STORY. Goodness Liz was so beautiful in this movie. Truly a movie star and a great actress!

Wish I'd have caught it from the beginning. LOVE that movie and seen it many times. Richard B. is so weak, but fab just the same. Eva Marie Saint was beautiful too, but in a fresh way.

Liz was at her peak and breathtaking!

The Shadow of Your Smile is one of my all time favorite songs.

Yes. He never fails to hypnotize me when he is on screen. Something about his voice. I'm sure he was a cad in real life....but listening to him is a treat!

Such a sad movie, but so well done!

Poor thing. He probably would've fared better as a university professor...he was so intelligent, he could've been a professor, like "George." BTW he definitely was cheated out of the Oscar that year!!!! (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf)

I think "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" is the quintessential Taylor-Burton collaboration. Some of the best acting of their careers, or are they acting at all?

BTW, Virginia Woolf is coming on tonight @ 7 pm CST on TCM!

Burton was definitely acting. Most people in Hollywood agree that he was robbed. ET got an Oscar but he didn't.

The Sandpiper is one of those movies that should be seen in a cinema. It's basically eye candy, with the gorgeous scenery and beautiful music........I wish there was a cinema around here that showed old movies....you would have to live in a large city for that, I'm sure.........

So Enjoy the movie for the two actors, lovely Elizabeth Taylor and handsome and attractive Richard Burton.

The song from the movie "The Shadow of Your Smile" is still enjoyed by many because it is so beautiful.

The subject matter was controversial at the time- a minister who has and extra-marital affair with a single unwed mother.

I think the script is a bit inane, but I love the scenery and the overall Big Sur aura of the film.

This is one script that doesn't stand the test of time. As I recall because the Mom (elizabeth) is unwed, her son (was is actually called illegitimate, lol!) is court ordered to a Christian type school. The film is from mid 60's. Wow! how times have changed. You can't take kids away from a mother now a days for being unmarried.

I've never seen this movie (I don't think). But I could stare at Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton all day.

Funny how some loved the movie and some didn't.

I'm that way about the Godfather. Horrible cast picked, horrible acting, just horrible.
