I don't want to hijack my thread about Christmas budgeting, so I'll start a new conversation.

What are your favorite causes to give to?

There is a local no-kill shelter we give to, and of course hubby's employer matches funds up to $1,000. It's where we found our sweet baby boy BooBoo when he was a 4-month-old orphan kitten.

We discovered a very local food bank in the Woodinville area; I prefer to give to local groups so we donate to to them too. (I think another poster on the Claudia's kittens thread mentioned it to me too) We live in a fairly affluent area and people sometimes forget that there IS a need here too; not everyone is well off and there's more hunger than you might think.

I also have a friend in dire straits so we help her out as much as we can; she cleans my house, mows my lawns and does any other work I can find for her. I'm so happy that she was recently hired by a local hospital for a REAL job with REAL benefits but it's going to take her some time to get back on her feet so she'll still clean my house. And believe me, she earns every cent; she's one of the most hard-working people I've ever met. I really admire her determination and fortitude through all this.
